Tour Schedule

The Boat House by Jana D. Barrett.
Audience/Genre: New Adult, Mystery/Romance.
Publication: October 30, 2017.
Genevieve Vandermere-Anderson lives in an elite world carefully crafted by her stepfather. While other girls her age revel in the freedom of their first summer break from college, Genevieve has no choice but to return to her childhood home in Hilton Head, South Carolina to play sidekick to her vindictive stepfather. Forbidden from social media and isolated from her peers, she returns home disheartened and oppressed by the actions of her past, governed by secrets.
Though she is fearful of the repercussions, Genevieve decides it is time to start making her own choices. She sneaks out of her fortified house to attend the annual beach bonfire. There she meets a handsome stranger and follows him to an abandoned boathouse hidden in low country marshes. Little does she know that this small act of rebellion will be the catalyst for unraveling the truth about her regretful past, and the layers of deception her stepfather has masterminded.

When she begins to investigate the boating accident that tragically killed her mother and two other people, she discovers that her stepfather's suspicious behavior and control tactics are all part of a greater agenda.

The Boat House delivers twists and turns at every corner and promises to keep you guessing to the very end!

I was getting whiplash trying to figure out the players and the suspects at first. I suspected everyone! As it turns out, everyone else was suspecting Genevieve in the role of being like her step-father; a narcissist and a criminal! This book packs a punch to your mind and keeps punching! I mean, there is so many lies going on, that the truth is far far away. My heart goes out to her!

There is action galore. Suspense aplenty. Romance is hinted. Friends to be made. Mystery to be solved! Now, just watching Genevieve sort through it all can be a little maddening and maybe a little pitiful as well. But Genevieve is ready to take back her own life and find the answers so she can get on with her own life. If you read this, you will enjoy the ride!

The book is told in multiple point of views, although Genevieve’s is the main POV the story is told in. She finds herself back at her childhood home on the beach, wondering why her step-father kept the property. His usual MO is to get rid of the property after he gets rid of the next well to do wife. Genevieve is sure he is killing them. And she is beginning to believe he killed her mom too. But why not her?

She sneaks out and meets Easton at the bonfire on the beach. They are attracted to each other. Their encounters leaving more questions than answers. Then she meets the neighbors’s twins who become her friends. Stellan and Livi. Stellan is a vet. Livi seems to be on the bottom end of a bottle of alcohol at times but is a good friend to Genevieve. Stellan likes Genevieve. This is all new to Genevieve because she is not allowed to have social media or friends really. But she dumps her trouble on the twins because she is tired of living like this. They want to help. Their parents are lawyers who are currently out of town.

Genevieve comes from money! Lots and lots of it. Genevieve is told she will get her money when she turns 21. So she is biding her time and playing along to a point with her stepfather until she turns 21. Then she is getting out of Dodge! But now the tables have turned after a little hiccup in his usual plan and he wants her to play the girlfriend to a wealthy man. But she already knows this man. This man is Easton. She is totally confused now! Easton didn’t seem to be someone with a lot of money when she had met with him.

From here on, Genevieve starts getting information that she has never heard before and she doesn't know what to believe. She just knows that her step father is an evil man. There are so many twists to the story that even what I have written about the story may not be all that true by the time you get to the end!

I love the characters, some had humor, some had seriousness, some had looks, some have money, but they all are well developed! Oh my gosh, the last few chapters made me smile and made me think there might be another book?!? Because I wouldn’t mind reading about some of the other characters and I wonder about Audhild too!

If you like mysteries, romance, deceptions, narcissists, boats, water, money, with a what have you done to me then this might be for you!
