Tour & Giveaway: A Girl Like Me (Like Us #2) by Ginger Scott

A Girl Like Me (Like Us #2) by Ginger Scott.
Audience/Genre: A mature YA romance.
Publication: May 26th 2017.
They say everyone’s a superhero to someone. I’m not sure who I’m supposed to save, but I know who saved me.

We were kids. His name was Christopher. And up until the day he pulled me from death’s grip, he was nothing more than a boy I felt sorry for. In a
blink of an eye, he became the only person who made me feel safe.

And then he disappeared.

Now I’m seventeen. I’m not a kid anymore. I haven’t been for years. While death didn’t take me that day, the things that happened left me with
scars—the kind that robbed me of everything I once loved and drove me into darkness. But more than anything else, that day—and every day since—has taken away my desire to dream.

I wasn’t going to have hope. I wouldn’t let myself wish. Those things—they weren’t for girls like me. That’s what I believed…until the new boy.

He’s nothing like the old boy. He’s taller and older. His hair is longer,
and his body is lean—strong and ready for anything. I don’t feel sorry for
him. And sometimes, I hate him. He challenges me. From the moment I first saw him standing there on the baseball field, he pushed me—his eyes
constantly questioning, doubting…daring. Still, something about him—it
feels…familiar.

He says his name is Wes. But I can’t help but feel like he’s someone else.
Someone from my past. Someone who’s come back to save me.

This time, though, he’s too late. Josselyn Winters, the girl he once knew,
is gone. I am the threat; I am my worst enemy. And he can’t save me from myself.

Review by Kelly

I got so caught up in reading this book that I didn’t highlight much until near the end! This book is a little different from her other books in that this one has a paranormal element to it. Where we can become heroes with super powers. Some more real than others. Some are just jokes, some are just overcoming obstacles that we may face in this life. Joss Winters seems to have a lot of obstacles and with Wesley Stokes by her side they both are unstoppable! Joss has lost part of her leg and Wesley has some. abilities that are definitely super. But you have to read it to find out what he does have and what he doesn’t!

I can fly

I’ll be the reason you wake up smiling. That’s hero enough for me.

This second book is more of a rollercoaster ride than the first one was, both mentally and in action! There are so many bad times and many good times for these two main characters, but the bad isn’t done yet for them both! I loved that it is like that in life. We have many ups and downs but it seems like they have more than their fair shares!

I love how Ginger Scott puts real obstacles in our paths of life! She is definitely a sports fan. This book is softball and baseball. Joss has to overcome her loss of Wes (or find him) and become a stronger person herself or stay depressed and give up her love of ball after losing part of her leg! She gets some great rehab and becomes even stronger than before. The word “stronger” is both in the literal and figurative sense! Joss is a kick butt sort of girl and it takes a lot to get her down! I want to be her! I mean look at B T Urrela, no I mean really look at him! If he can do it, so can Joss! https://www.facebook.com/B.Taylor.Urruela

Joss’s dad has made some serious bad choices and it affects their lives. Joss needs help and she calls her newly reconnected grandmother to help her. Their family life is totally messed up now!

Wes on the other hand, doesn’t know what to do with some of his life. But he has his adoptive parents and brothers who love him as well as Joss. He just needs to get his act together. Then something happens to him that I did not see coming and it changes everything!

I read this book straight through, neglecting everything that needed to be done at home. Cereal sounds good for dinner. My family can fix that themselves! I needed to finish the book!

What I really liked and cried while I read it was the acknowledgments at the end! What Ginger Scott wanted to achieve is what I thought too! That maybe if we had superpowers that this might be what it would look like:

...was to write a superhero story that felt real, that felt like this...this is how it would really be if someone like this existed. Our hero wouldn't save the world. He would save his world. And the damsel, if you can call Joss that-she would be tough as nails. While Wes's powers are a little more magical, Joss's are tangible-rooted in overcoming adversity, defying odds, believing when it feels impossible, breathing when you feel dead inside. Villians abound in real life,
too. And this time, the good guys win.

I loved all these characters and the sidekicks and the families! They are all part of a big family!

These two books will definitely be one that I read time and time again!

If you like sports, baseball, softball, prosthetics, amputees playing sports, rehabs, law enforcement officers camping out at your house, guns, super powers, action, high school, superhero stories, than this might be for you!
