Blast & Giveaway: The Ghost of You and Me by Kelly Oram

The Ghost of You and Me by Kelly Oram

How do you tell someone who hates you and blames you for the death of his best friend that you miss him?

From the bestselling teen and young adult author of Cinder & Ella comes a new heart-wrenching romance sure to bring all the feels.

The tragic death of Spencer Schott unravels the lives of the two people he loved most—his girlfriend, Bailey, and his best friend, Wes. Secrets and guilt from that fateful night keep both Bailey and Wes from overcoming Spencer’s loss and moving on with their lives.

Now, nearly a year later, both Bailey and Wes are still so broken over what happened that Spencer can’t find peace in the afterlife. In order to put his soul to rest, he’s given one chance to come back and set things right...even if that means setting up his girlfriend with his best friend.

With the emotional resonance of Jellicoe Road and the magical realism of The Lovely Bones, The Ghost of You and Me is a story about overcoming grief, finding redemption for past mistakes, and the healing power of friendship and love. Fans of John Green, Sarah Dessen, and Nicholas Sparks are sure to love this haunting new tale from Kelly Oram.

This is a clean young adult romance stand alone novel that reads like contemporary drama romance and has just a touch of magical realism.

I know how to watch my back. I’m the only one that ever has.

India Maxwell hasn’t just moved across the country—she’s plummeted to the bottom rung of the social ladder. It’s taken years to cover the mess of her home life with a veneer of popularity. Now she’s living in one of Boston’s wealthiest neighborhoods with her mom’s fiancé and his daughter, Eloise. Thanks to her soon-to-be stepsister’s clique of friends, including Eloise’s gorgeous, arrogant boyfriend Finn, India feels like the one thing she hoped never to be seen as again: trash.

But India’s not alone in struggling to control the secrets of her past. Eloise and Finn, the school’s golden couple, aren’t all they seem to be. In fact, everyone’s life is infinitely more complex than it first appears. And as India grows closer to Finn and befriends Eloise, threatening the facades that hold them together, what’s left are truths that are brutal, beautiful, and big enough to change them forever…

I love Sam's books! It never fails to get my heart pumping and leave me feeling as if I was the main character in the story! Weird and it happens with Every. Single. Book. I have to space reading them as it leaves me drained. It's always too real and raw. She is really that good!!

I like India. She has lived with terrible abuse as a child. And that left her with trust issues and food issues. Now she lives with her mom, aka Hayley as India calls her. Her mom left her with her dad who was abusive to her. Her mother had no idea but she never checked on her either.

India is a popular girl in school. She likes it that way. She knows what's going on. India fills her time with extra curricular activities and a deep desire to be the D. A. one day! India is tough. She can dish it right back with the rest of them that give it to her. She is loyal and passionate. She is determined. She will fight! And she learns to love not just a boy but a family and that is the best kind of love; a forever family!

Her mom tells her she met someone and she is getting married! India is very hesitant to believe in this guy she found. They move into the mansion with her soon to be stepsister, Eloise or Elle as her friends call her. Elle is cold to her at first. Elle has a boyfriend Finn.

As time moves on, things don't make sense to India about Elle and Finn's relationship. But both of them have deep dark secrets that India comes to know. I can't tell you what they are. It's what makes the book so good. But being in on those secrets and with what happens with the three of them, it becomes more than India can bear. But she will never betray her family! That is the only solid thing that never wavers for India!

The abuse she left earlier in her life finds its way into India's mind while she lives in this high society world. And my heart went to all that she has gone through!

Just as all hell breaks loose and the secrets are out! It starts to come to an end and I don't want it to be. I need more, I want to know what happens with all of them; her friends, her family, Finn, Elle! Please Please write a follow up! I can't handle my own minds version of what happens next!

If you like deep secrets, family, money, trash, abuse, friends, mean girls, jealousy, pretending, wanting more than what you can have, then this might be for you!

When Hayley arrived I got into the car without a word and we drove home to the apartment in silence. Once inside, Hayley finally spoke.
“I thought we could do takeout tonight.”
We couldn’t afford to do take-out nights all the time. Take-out nights were reserved for birthdays and the last night of school summer vacation. Sometimes even Thanksgiving.
Something was up. “Aren’t you supposed to be on a flight somewhere right about now?”
She shrugged, avoiding my gaze as she wandered into the kitchen.
I followed her, watching as she pulled take-out menus out of our kitchen drawer.
“What do you want? Chinese, Indian, Thai, Lebanese?”
“I want to get this ‘talk’ over with.”
Hayley regarded me, taking in my tension and the hard look in my eyes. Finally she sighed. “This is good news, India. Truly it is.”
“Just say it.”
“Theo proposed. I said yes. And we don’t want to wait. We’re getting married this December.”
My mouth dropped open. “I haven’t even met him.”
She pinched the bridge of her nose at my shout. “And that would be a concern if you were younger. But you’re starting junior year. You’re sixteen. Before we know it, you’ll be going off to college.” She stepped toward me and grabbed my hand. I let her squeeze it. “And, sweetheart, you can go to any college you want now.”
“How?”
“Theo is…well, he’s wealthy. And he’s already made it perfectly clear that he wants the very best for me, and that means the very best for you.”
“Are you trying to buy my acceptance of this whole ridiculous thing? You are aware that this isn’t normal, right?”
Hayley dropped my hand. “Don’t be melodramatic. I just want you to know that yes, or course it will be difficult to leave behind school and your friends here and move to Massachusetts, but the upside is that we’ll never have another financial worry in our lives. Ever.”
Jesus, how wealthy was this guy?
As if she read the question on my face, Hayley smiled dreamily. “He’s an incredibly well-respected attorney from a wealthy family. Boston’s elite.”
“And he’s marrying you?”
“Nice,” she snapped. “Very nice.”
“I didn’t mean it like that.” I shrugged. “I just…I thought those people stuck to their own.”
“Usually. But Theo doesn’t care about that stuff. He just wants to marry the woman he loves.” She waved away my negativity with a shake of her hair over her shoulders. “He married a well-to-do woman, and they had a daughter, Eloise, before she died of cancer a few years ago. He hasn’t been serious about another woman since, until me.”
“Oh my God.” I shook my head in disgust. “You think you’re living in a fairy tale.”
“Don’t talk to me like that.”
“You’re hauling me across the country to move in with some guy I’ve never met!” I heard the hysteria creep into my voice, but couldn’t seem to stop it. “Let’s remember the last guy you chose that I had to live with. Or have you already forgotten?”
Understanding dawned on Hayley’s face. It was shocking that I even had to say it out loud. A good mother would have known exactly why I was taking this so hard. “Oh, sweetheart.” She moved toward me but stopped when I flinched back. “Theo is not like him. Not anything like him. I’m not a stupid kid anymore. I wouldn’t make that mistake again.”
I stared at the floor, trying to will my heart rate to slow. I could barely hear anything over the whooshing of blood in my ears.
I started at Hayley’s touch and looked up. She’d decided to ignore my body language and cross the room to take hold of my arms. She ducked her face to stare into my eyes.
“No one,” she whispered fiercely, “no one will hurt you. I promise.”
Liar.
LIAR.
LIAR!
The scream rang out inside of me but somehow I swallowed it.
This was happening.

BLURB:

A WOMAN NEVER FORGETS HER FIRST COWBOY . . .

As a single mother, Naomi Sullivan is used to doing things on her own. She's finally saved enough from working at the Cortez Ranch to buy a lovely home for her and her little girl. Life is going as planned. But when her high school sweetheart comes riding back to town, this self-sufficient woman feels something she hasn't felt in years: red-hot, unbridled need for the handsome cowboy who left her behind.

Lucas Cortez doesn't plan on being in town long. Yet when he sees Naomi again-the gorgeous girl he never stopped loving-he's tempted to hang up his hat and stay awhile. He's already charmed his way into her daughter's heart, but he'll need more than sweet talk and roses to convince Naomi to give them a second chance-especially when she's hiding a secret that could change their lives forever . . .

An excerpt from Comeback Cowboy:

“I’m so sorry, Naomi.” For whatever reason, her heart had opened to him. Maybe only a crack, but that was all he needed. He stepped closer to her, so that her body was pressed against his. Out in the parking lot, a line of headlights moseyed out to the road, but he didn’t care. He didn’t know when he’d have this chance again. So he took her into his arms because he couldn’t wait. Couldn’t analyze. He had to see. He had to feel her. Had to know she was as desperate as he was.

“Lucas…” she whispered, closing her eyes.

He rested his hands on her hips, urging her closer. “I need to know you don’t hate me,” he said, drowning in the feel of her. His hands slipped down low on her back, until he had her locked in his arms.

“I don’t hate you,” she squeaked. “God, I don’t hate you at all.”

That was all he needed. Holding her tightly in his arms, he lowered his mouth to hers, unable to stop himself, unable to hold back anything. Her lips tasted sweet, so warm and wet. He pressed into them, drinking in the scent of her, the feel of her curves fit so tightly against his throbbing body.

She kissed him back, sighing deeply into his mouth as though letting go of her protests and hesitations.

His tongue sought hers, rekindling that connection they’d always had, electrifying everything else until the sparks of desire flashed all through him.

Her soft moan purred into him as her lips clung to his, and those hands of hers, always delicate but strong, climbed their way down his chest. He’d never regretted walking away from her as much as he did now, gripped by this one small taste of how it could’ve been with her…

About HOMETOWN COWBOY:

NEVER FALL IN LOVE WITH A COWBOY

Jessa Mae Love is done with relationships. No matter how tempting he might be, she cannot--will not--fall for a man like Lance Cortez. The outrageously handsome cowboy is practically a living legend in Colorado, as famous for riding bulls as he is for breaking hearts. What would a big-time rodeo star like him see in a small-town veterinarian who wears glasses, rescues animals, and cries when watching rom-coms? Turns out, plenty.

Raising bulls, riding the circuit, and looking after his ailing father--Lance never stands still for long. Yet Jessa catches his attention, and the more she tries to resist him, the more he wants her. When she agrees to move to the ranch to keep an eye on Lance's dad, Jessa tells him they have to keep it professional: no flirting, no sweet talk, and definitely no kissing. But with Jessa now living under his roof, that's easier said than done . . .

Tour & GIveaway: Roar (Stormheart #1) by Cora Carmack

Roar (Stormheart #1) by Cora Carmack.
Audience/Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy.
Publication: June 13th 2017 by Tor Teen.
In a land ruled and shaped by violent magical storms, power lies with those who control them.

Aurora Pavan comes from one of the oldest Stormling families in existence. Long ago, the ungifted pledged fealty and service to her family in exchange for safe haven, and a kingdom was carved out from the wildlands and sustained by magic capable of repelling the world’s deadliest foes. As the sole heir of Pavan, Aurora’s been groomed to be the perfect queen. She’s intelligent and brave and honorable. But she’s yet to show any trace of the magic she’ll need to protect her people.

To keep her secret and save her crown, Aurora’s mother arranges for her to marry a dark and brooding Stormling prince from another kingdom. At first, the prince seems like the perfect solution to all her problems. He’ll guarantee her spot as the next queen and be the champion her people need to remain safe. But the more secrets Aurora uncovers about him, the more a future with him frightens her. When she dons a disguise and sneaks out of the palace one night to spy on him, she stumbles upon a black market dealing in the very thing she lacks—storm magic. And the people selling it? They’re not Stormlings. They’re storm hunters.

Legend says that her ancestors first gained their magic by facing a storm and stealing part of its essence. And when a handsome young storm hunter reveals he was born without magic, but possesses it now, Aurora realizes there’s a third option for her future besides ruin or marriage.

She might not have magic now, but she can steal it if she’s brave enough.

Challenge a tempest. Survive it. And you become its master.

Reviewed by Kelly.

First off- Don't you just love the cover?? And you really have to check out the trailer below- I love it!!!

What a unique spin of fantasy! I loved the idea that you could control, capture and eliminate all types of storms! There are witches who are over elements too! There is good vs evil. There is a love story. There is action, adventure and my heart beats faster after each page waiting to find out what will happen next! This is all I ever want in a book!

Aurora, Rora or Roar as her name accidentally becomes has no magic. She is the sole surviving heir of her kingdom and her mother has kept her isolated from others so no one will know she doesn’t possess the magic to eliminate these storm that threaten their kingdom with destruction. So her marriage is arranged to a Prince from a nearby kingdom. Then she would reveal she had no magic after they were married. I kind of liked her betrothed at first. I was drooling over him like Rora did. Then she overheard him talk to his brother and she felt sickened. She woke up and decided to take her life in her own hands.

So after a few things happen, she follows him one night to an underground market. There were all kinds of storms bottled up for people to use who didn’t originally possess it. She realized that maybe she didn’t have to marry him and that she could steal some magic for herself and save her kingdom and herself from Prince Cassius Locke. She, with the help of her only friend from her childhood and a servant, plots a story of her kidnapping to give her time to learn and get this magic for herself. What she got was a whole lot more than she could ever have bargained for!

As the ending of book 1 drew near to end, I was reading faster and faster. I needed to know what would happen next. There is a threat that you only get glimpses of during the book and then in the end when you saw how close that threat was and you wanted, no needed to know what will happen it ends! ( I have a love hate relationship with series! I have to reread the first book so I don’t miss out all the small details when the next book comes out!)

I love the little band of family that Roar becomes part of.. Each of them are so different but they work together so well! Roar is accepted by most but not all! I loved how slowly the romance grew with Locke (not the prince) and Roar. But the looming threat (which is actually one person) is what I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book for. He is pure evil and Roar is the exact opposite and I want to see how she will be the hero of her own story! I also like the laughs I got while reading...

He settled into the sand beside her, his long legs bent at the knee with his elbows braced on top. "I'm not that bad, am I?"
"You are relentless and demanding and unwavering."
"I only hear good things coming out of your mouth."

If you like fantasy, storms of all kinds, earths elements, kingdoms, good vs evil, a slow romance, magic, family (both the blood kind and the formed kind), action and adventure and learning about who you really are then this might be for you!

Aurora’s muscles twitched involuntarily as she stood outside the throne room, as if her body might decide to run without her mind’s consent. Two of her guard, Taven and Merrin, waited a few steps behind her. They followed her inside, and an eerie silence took hold after the heavy doors closed.
Moments later Cassius Locke melted out of the shadows, looking more like a villain than a prince—dressed all in black with dark hair and eyes to match. At twenty, he was a mere two years older than she. But the prince before her seemed bigger, older…much more a man than she had expected. He reminded her of those thunderstorms that stalled on the horizon—growing bigger and darker as they churned in on themselves.
Their gazes met, and she held his stare, shoulders square and back. Sweat dripped down her spine beneath the elaborate costume, and a headache knocked at her temples from the weight of the headdress, but she did not let it show. His eyes dropped, perusing her form. Rora’s heart thumped a little faster. The longer he looked at her, the more uncomfortable she became. And she hated herself for it. For letting him get to her.
If her mother had taught her anything, it was that no one could make you feel small unless you allowed it. So she took a deep breath and let herself believe she was the fierce and powerful girl everyone thought she was. And she stared right back.
Maybe Rora didn’t have magic, but Cassius didn’t know that. She had spent her whole life preparing to be queen, and she’d be damned if she spared an instant of worry for what he thought of her. She evaluated him in return and spitefully hoped it made him uncomfortable. Starting with his neatly combed midnight hair, she assessed his looks—strong brows, straight nose, pointed chin. His face was almost too symmetrical, as if crafted by an architect. Rora frowned and swept her gaze down to his broad chest and large shoulders.
Instead of making him uncomfortable, she began to feel uneasy with her perusal. He was too attractive. Far more handsome than any of the local young men she might have chosen. But that beauty was tempered by an air of brutality—a hardness in his eyes and the precise, sharp movements of a man who was deadly and wanted everyone to know it.
He stood a handspan taller than she, a rarity for Rora’s tall form. When she finally looked back at his face, he was quirking an eyebrow, one corner of his mouth lifted in a smirk.
“Don’t stop on my account. Please, look your fill. See what you’re getting, Princess.”

Tour: Heartbeat of the Bitterroot by Janice Mineer

Heartbeat of the Bitterroot by Janice Mineer.
Audience/Genre: Adult, Contemporary Romance, Clean Read.
Publication: June 13th 2017 by Sweetwater Books.
Jenna Clark always tried to bury her bleak beginnings in Montana's Bitterroot Valley, but a newfound secret about her father's identity forces Jenna to dig up her past. While there, mysterious threats and dangers suddenly enter her life that bring about an unexpected man of her dreams--Michael Callahan. After a lifetime of running away from family and love will Jenna find the courage to confront her past and step forward into the future?

Reviewed by Kelly.

I need to start with the negative, so that others will see that there is a need to keep reading! I wanted to stop reading the book up to halfway through the book. I couldn’t connect to Jenna! She was boring and I couldn’t find any spark of life in her! It was as if she was on autopilot. Her then boyfriend just proved my point as he was only ever around when it was convenient to him and then handed her his laundry while he drove off in his Corvette! Even the writing seemed to lack life, as in it was just proper grammar most of the time.

But, I kept reading and finally there was a bit of spark in her character and I found I loved the message of the book. Jenna was someone who helped others and found someone to love and who would love her too!

Her aunt loves the bitterroot plant and in this scene she explains using an analogy to Jenna’s life:

These flowers grow in almost any kind of soil… They are so hardy, they just find the light and move toward it until their skinny little tubular leaves push through the ground… They simply don’t give up…. If you cut the bitterroot in half… there is a red center, just at the top of the root. It’s the heart of the bitterroot...A tough little flower with a lot to give.

And Jenna seems to have a black cloud over her head because bad things keep happening to her. And one almost kills her. But her family and Michael are there for her…

“You doing OK?” Michael says- “Sure. I love getting chased through the woods in the middle of the night by an armed assailant.” (Jenna replies with) “I know. I’m the best date ever...”

The story has a wonderful moral and I liked the questions posed at the end of the book. I love the family here and the problems they face are met with love by all of them. No one is left out!

If you like stories with a moral, stupid uncaring boyfriends, bison, horses, serving others, airports, architecture, bitterroot flowers, family and finding someone who loves you for who you are then this might be for you.

There was the occasional irate customer, face twisted in fury over a missedplane, and sometimes there was the crushed bag leaking strange fluid. And ofcourse there were those times when an employee peacefully overslept, infusing panic into his team of overburdened co-workers. I expected mostdays at the Missoula Airport to hold a few surprises, but that particular day wasone for the record books. As a supervisor, it was my job to smooth out bumps, unruffle feathers and help maintain everyone's sanity. But nothing reallyprepared me for that morning.

Janice Mineer graduated from Brigham Young University and later taughtEnglish, allowing her to spend quality time with something she loves-thewritten word. A hopeless romantic ,Janice has played harp for weddings, evenfor one that took place on the edge of a cliff over a river. Because of her firsthusband's long illness, Janice and her family spent extended time away fromhome to be near the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. When her husband passedaway, Janice dedicated herself to work with the Ronald McDonald House toprovide a home away from home for families who need medical care for theirchildren. Janice is the author of a children's book, Gingerbread from the Heart.Heartbeat of the Bitterroot is her first novel.Janice lives in the Bitterroot valley of Montana with her husband, Randy.Between them they have five children and 11 beautiful grandchildren.

The Year of Four
Nya Jade
(Phoebe Pope, #1)
Publication date: October 28th 2012
Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult

The students of Green Lane Academy roam their halls unaware that below their manicured campus exists a prestigious school of an entirely different kind . . .

Sixteen-year-old Phoebe Pope has enrolled at the Campus Below: a spy academy for shape-shifters hidden deep beneath the grounds of a boarding school whose humans unknowingly protect it. There, thanks to a carefully planned schedule, she leads a double life: spy trainee Below and normal teenager Above.

As if two course loads, concealing a secret power she alone wields, and coping with her father’s recent death weren’t enough, Phoebe finds herself developing major feelings for actor and teen heartthrob Colten Chase, who attends the Campus Above and appears to be majoring in winning Phoebe’s heart. But when officials learn that Phoebe may be at the center of a startling prophecy, she becomes the target of shape-shifting assassins who will stop at nothing to suppress the truth.

Now Phoebe’s lessons about Shaper’s enemies and spycraft take on great importance as a menace stalks the campus, with Phoebe as its target. Meanwhile, what began as an unlikely relationship with Colten, quickly morphs into heartache when she suspects that something sinister lurks beneath this movie star’s glitter and fame. Suddenly, Phoebe’s caught in a mesh of lies, betrayals, and danger where she doesn’t know who to trust, and needs to rely on herself—and her secret power—to get to the truth and to stay alive.

Nya Jade
(Phoebe Pope, #2)
Publication date: April 2017
Genres: Paranormal, Young Adult

According to the press, Phoebe Pope and teen movie star Colten Chase are no longer an item—which is just how the happy new couple like it. And yet there’s trouble in paradise . . .

Phoebe is haunted by dreams that show her things she can’t possibly know about—including a pact between Colten and a wanted assassin. In the daylight, she struggles to keep a newly emerging power hidden, even as her hands itch to wield it.

Meanwhile, in the wake of their escape from a Vigo crèche, Phoebe and her fellow Hyphas study under lock and key at the Campus Below. As the foursome wait to see who among them will fulfill the prophecy, someone dear to Phoebe is kidnapped by a powerful Vigo determined to use her to spy on the Shaper royalty. When the Hyphas are called to the Royal Court, Phoebe refuses to heed warnings of imminent danger for she will do whatever it takes to rescue her loved one.

But once at court, nothing is as it first appears. A sinister force controls some royals, while others whisper behind closed doors about forbidden alliances. And as Phoebe draws on her courage to complete the task set by her enemy, she makes a startling discovery—one that upends her father’s memory.

With dangerous conspiracies surfacing, Phoebe must uncover what the Royal Shapers really want from her, and decide whether there’s room for Colten in her unraveling life.

Guest Post...

Hello! Thanks so much for hosting me here today!

The idea for The Year of Four story initially came to me as a big screen movie. That's how I pictured it. So, I set out to write the screenplay. At that time, I'd written a romantic comedy screenplay and thought it would be fun to write another one with teen characters and paranormal elements. It was easier said than done. I couldn't figure out how to weave the story's many layers into a vivid screenplay. But I couldn't let the idea go. So I decided to write the book instead. I figured that with some luck, someone else would write the screenplay one day!

One of my favorite Academy Awards categories is the one for “Best Adapted Screenplay.” I'm fascinated by a screenwriter's ability to transform an author's words into something that can live on the big screen. I try my best to finish a book before I see its film version. This gives my imagination an opportunity to create its own images first. Now and then, I stumble across a movie that I didn't know was based on book. And it's always a treat when that movie inspires me to read its source material. Here are two such movies.

Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory – The Gene Wilder version.

I was a young child when I saw this movie for the first time. I fell in love with it! In fact, I convinced myself that the movie had been made just for me. Finally, someone understood what it meant to love chocolate so much! I remember crying when Charlie got his golden ticket. I think I felt joy and envy in equal measure. Everything about the movie was pure magic-- the story, the music, and the characters. And as much as I love Johnny Depp (that's a conversation for another time), the Willy Wonka character belongs to Gene Wilder. This movie was my introduction to Roald Dahl. And I've been a fan ever since.

The Bourne Identity

The first time I saw the Bourne Identity, I had no idea that it was based on a book. Matt Damon's performance was amazing and the pacing was great. I saw the movie two or three times before I bought the book. Anyone who has read the book probably knows these two facts: Robert Ludlum's writing is fantastic. And the movie is nothing like the book! I love the movie, but the book is so much better. That said, I understand the choices the screenwriters had to make. There are simply too many layers in the book to fit into one movie. I often wonder about the thought process behind deciding which plot points to keep and which ones to delete when turning a book into a movie.

What movie inspired you to read the book?
