High School senior Lily Rhodes has been in love with her brother’s best friend nearly all her life. When nineteen year old Jake joins the Marines and is shipped overseas, she worries she’ll never see him again, and wishes she’d been braver before he left. Lily vows that if Jake comes home, she’ll tell him how she feels. But when Jake is injured by an IED and is discharged from the Marines, he comes home changed, bitter and broken. Despite the fact he's loved Lily for the past three years, he no longer feels worthy of someone like her. Not one to back down from a challenge, Lily knows the best things in life are worth fighting for.

All Lily's life she wanted Jake Bennett. Jake went to war with her brother and came back 5 months later wounded with shrapnel in his leg, knee and back, leaving him with constant pain, a limp, and unable to walk stairs. He thinks he is not worthy of Lily anymore. But the heart wants what the heart wants and it wants Lily. Lily also isn't backing down and will keep at him until he sees his worth and that she loves him unconditionally.

Jake has home troubles too. He also has an old girlfriend who won't take get lost for an answer. With Lily by his side they find that they both can work together and accomplish their life dreams with a few bumps in the road.

The story is fast paced. I loved Lily's work ethics and her ability to serve those whom she loves. Jake's war wounds aren't really talked about much in the book. There are only mentions of nightmares. I would think there would be more to recovery for Jake and for him to have a relationship with Lily even if she didn't want to have sex until she was married.

I loved the characters. The story was too rushed for me. I still loved the relationship they had. I just don't think it would have been that simple. I also would have called it Worth the Wait as the phrase was used often.

If you like Marines, broken families, long lost families, real estate, vet techs, Myrtle Beach, wounded soldiers, then this might be for you.

Charity West is a young adult/new adult romance author who has always had her head in the clouds. She had her first crush when she was four, and it lasted for six years. Then she quickly fell head over heels for another boy, until she had to move away and leave him behind. Jumping from one boy to another, she finally found a keeper when she was twenty, and she’s been married to him ever since.

By the time Charity was twelve, she was sneaking her mother’s Harlequin romances and reading them in secret when she was supposed to be asleep. Teased throughout middle school and high school for the bodice ripper covers on the books she openly read in class, she knew that one day she wanted to write her own happily-ever-afters.E
