Love's Shadow (Brothers Maledetti #2) by Nichole Van.
Audience/Genre: Historical Fiction, Romance, Paranormal, Clean Read, Mystery.
Publication: November 23rd 2016 by Fiorenza Publishing.
Branwell D'Angelo . . .
Six years ago, I fell in love with Lucy--my brother's girlfriend. Stupid of me, I know, but sometimes the heart doesn't listen to reason.
Six years, I've lived on the sidelines. Seeing him love her, be with her, bask in her sunshine . . .
I watched her break his heart and then cleaned up the shattered pieces of him she left behind.
She's the one woman I can't have but still the only one my soul wants.
Now she's back in our lives and needs the unique help only us D'Angelos can give.
He's not emotionally strong enough to face her. So he's sending me instead . . .

For her part, when tragedy strikes Lucy Snow on a visit to Italy, she can't bring herself to call any of the D'Angelo brothers for help. There are consequences for falling in love with your ex-boyfriend's brother. But Lucy desperately needs Branwell's paranormal skills and his gift of Sight. And if seeing him will negate at least three years of therapy? Well, it's a price she is willing to pay.

Thrown together in a desperate bid to save an innocent life, Branwell and Lucy struggle against their shared past, only to realize that something even more dangerous is reaching through the weight of time to stalk their every move . . .

Though the second book in the Brothers Maledetti series, Love'sShadow is a full-length, standalone novel.

It's a forbidden love that keeps Branwell and Lucy apart for many years. Lucy was dating Branwell's brother but when he proposed Lucy couldn't accept and broke the relationship off. She was in love with Branwell. Branwell loved Lucy the moment they met but neither knew how the other felt.

Lucy needs the D'Angelo brothers help to find her niece that just up and disappeared. They have a passed down paranormal gift. They are triplets and the gift/curse split between the three. Now the gift is morphing into more as they get older. Branwell touches things and hears things. But since being near Lucy he starts to smell and see as well. He keeps his body covered including his hands to avoid hearing things. The book is complicated for him and there is much he has to do daily to prepare himself so as to not hear so much. It sounds like a sad life. But Lucy is definitely Branwell's match. She is quirky and always optomistic. She is always empathetic and Branwell is an empath.

At times, the story is dark. And others it is very light. It's a good mix!

The story grabs you but it took me a while to understand everything as there is a lot of history, ancient religion, artifacts and stuff I know nothing about!

I am looking forward to reading the other siblings' books as well!

If you like history, forbidden love, finding real love, ancient things, family than this might be for you.

Contents: thoughts of suicide, some mild swearing.

Nichole Van is an artist who feels life is too short to only have one obsession. In former lives, she has been a contemporary dancer, pianist, art historian, choreographer, culinary artist and English professor. Though Nichole still prefers the label 'adaptable' more than 'A.D.D.'

Most notably, however, Nichole is an acclaimed photographer, winning over thirty international accolades for her work, including Portrait of the Year from WPPI in 2007. (Think Oscars for wedding and portrait photographers.) Her unique photography style has been featured in many magazines, including Rangefinder and Professional Photographer. She is also the creative mind behind the popular websites Flourish Emporium and {life as art} Workshops, which provide resources for photographers.

All that said, Nichole has always been a writer at heart. With an MA in English, she taught technical writing at Brigham Young University for ten years and has written more technical manuals than she can quickly count. She decided in late 2013 to start writing fiction and has loved exploring a new creative process. Nichole currently lives in Utah with her husband and three crazy children. Though continuing in her career as a photographer, Nichole is also now writing historical romance on the side.
