The Time Traveler's Christmas (Guardian of Scotland #3) by Amy Jarecki.
Audience/Genre: Adult, Historical Fiction.
Publication: October 4th 2016.
A man’s life can fall apart in an instant…

Tougher than oxhide, Lachlan Wallace can take about anything except a breakup call from his wife two minutes before competing in the Karate Championship of the World. Arriving home with a loss, he agrees to watch his uncle’s cat over the holidays. Or so he thinks—until he awakes on a fourteenth century battlefield beside a woman fighting for her life.

Never underestimate a woman’s determination…

Taken from her at the age of two, Lady Christina de Moray hasn’t seen her son in thirteen years. While traveling with Robert the Bruce’s army to exchange an English prisoner for the lad, a battle erupts. Losing the fight, Christina is rescued by a mysterious warrior while the English escape with her son yet again.

And never bet against the potency of passion…

Left with no way back to the twenty-first century, Lachlan agrees to help Christina rescue the lad from his English captors. If the heir is not returned by Christmas next, the Bruce will make his decision whom to grant the de Moray lands, including Lady Christina’s hand. Once his duty is fulfilled, Lachlan hopes to discover a way home—as long as he keeps his mind on the goal and ignores his growing love for the spirited woman who gives him her trust—and her heart.

I saw the movie “Braveheart” and I became obsessed with William Wallace and that time period. I have even been to Scotland and maybe I might even have given one of my kids a name of someone from that time! You might say I’m obsessed so yeah when I saw this, I really had to read it. I liked the take on it!

Lachlan (I love that name) is a guy who gives and demands respect. He trains and works hard. When his wife lets him know it’s over and names another guy, he is devastated. When he goes to his uncle’s house to house sit a cat, his uncle gives him a medallion. When his uncle leaves, he realizes that something is up because his cat really didn’t need to be watched as everything is automatic for the pet. He puts the medallion on and plops on the bed. He then finds himself on a battlefield where he sees a woman who is about to be raped and worse, killed. Lachlan goes to her aide. He is taken aback by how he got there. Why are all these people dressed like in an era gone by, in an era his mom was proficient in and taught him while growing up? He thought it was a reenactment. But quickly finds it to be the real deal.

He becomes the champion for Christina, the woman he saved. He learns they were there to exchange her son who she hasn’t seen for most of his life. Only her son was taken again and Christina is devastated. Lachlan decides to help her find her son. I mean the guy has a honed body and knows Martial Arts. He can take people down even with weapons.

Every where they turn, Lachlan and Christina are met with challenges. But they are both also finding themselves falling for the other. Lachlan doesn’t know how this medallion works or when he will go home. He does believe that he is there to help Christina get his son back. While there, his mother was able to speak to him in his head and he learns that he is the son of William Wallace.

The story is full of action, romance and intrigue. I enjoyed watching Lachlan fall in love and him teaching her son a thing or two when they are able to get him. Lachlan has a way with people. I liked all the references to the time period. I loved the ending. Now, I need to go back and read the story of Lachlan’s mother.

If you like Scottish history, time travel, romance, teaching kids respect and demanding it, being a champion then you might like this too!
