Oh the wonderments of a small child and all their innocent views of the world! It was like that through the whole book seeing 2 children growing up and the positive ways they view the world and the bond forged of love! I am in love with this book!!

What had me was the very beginning! Marlena lives in the woods with her loving parents. As a small child, she wanders in the woods often, as that is her playground, and she meets two wolves and is not in the least bit afraid of them. She thinks the male’s snorts at her are because he has a cold. Then she innocently states that the female’s bell is big. She is just so innocent and it’s so adorable to see a child’s POV. She just loves them. Then they bring a wolf pup to her and they are best buddies. They instantly love each other and become best friends. The wolf, who Marley nicknames him Romy, and Marley watch the female wolf come back one day after going off to find where her mate is. She is mortally wounded and then transforms into a woman. This woman tells Marley to help him and more things before she dies. Well Marley just brings home the wolf Romy and her parents at first are hesitant but as time moves on they see the bond they have and the fierce protection Romy has over everyone at home.

I numbly sat on the ground at the cave entrance and watched as the moon shone down on Romy, caressing his loneliness as if trying to blanket him from such devastating pain. Romy rolled his shoulders back as he faced the sky and then painfully howled into the night.

Marley grows and teaches Romy everything from school and realizes that he can understand her. Their bond just becomes more solidified with time. When Marley gets a boyfriend, Romy doesn’t like it one bit! Marley just isn’t into the boy like she is into her wolf. When she witnesses Romy become a human young man, she is awed and not afraid in the least. She embraces Romy and keeps it a secret. The bond is beyond seeing him naked or even sexual in nature but a pure love they have. I mean eventually Sebastian, the wolf’s name in human form, becomes a man and becomes very possessive and desires Marley but even then it is for life and you see in the way the author writes that it is tender and loving and way more than hormonal teenagers.

Men come and it just shows how some people are evil and then you see the alpha in Sebastian/Romy and his fierce loyalty. He would die for Marley and Marley would die for Sebastian/Romy.

The evil vs. good is awesome in this story. Love is portrayed in beautiful words and feelings stated throughout the book that I almost felt like I was intruding on some intimate moments. The love Marley and her parents have are selfless. The friendship Marley has with 2 boys at school is very tender and long lasting. In fact, I hope there is a sequel to this story with those two and what happens to Marley and Sebastian next.
