Review: Forget Me Not by Erika Marks

Forget Me Not
by Erika Marks.
Audience/Genre: Contemporary Romance.
Publication: May 19th 2015 by Tule Publishing.
When aspiring-writer Mallory Reynolds packed up for New York City, she ditched more than her quiet hometown of Magnolia Bay—she left her high-school sweetheart, Josh Loveless, behind. But when the big city didn’t deliver big contracts on her novels, she turned to writing erotica under the pen name Farrah Ivory to spare her family any embarrassment. Soon, her scandalously-sexy series, The Lost Diaries of Scarlet, is a break-out hit. Just as Mallory begins to enjoy her sweet success, her publisher leaks her true identity and a media firestorm ensues. Exposed, she decides there’s nowhere to hide—except for home.

For Josh Loveless, getting over Mallory Reynolds hasn’t been easy, but he’s done his best to move on. For starters, he’s turned his love of the outdoors and rock-climbing into his own business. And just as things are starting to settle for him, he learns Mallory’s coming home to ride out her scandal, and suddenly his world is turned upside down again…

Can Mallory convince her friends and family that she’s still the same good-hearted girl they knew? And more importantly, can Josh trust the woman she’s become, and give her a second chance to rewrite their love story with a happy ending?

You want a sweet quick romantic read, than this is it!

Two people just walked away from each other 5 years ago. One whose pride wouldn’t let him ask her to stay and one who thought they would go together or make it work for a few years long distance since Mallory got into NYU’s writing program. That same day, Josh was going to propose, but he just let her walk away.

Now 5 years later, Mallory is back to hide now that it is out that she wrote some scandalous books under a pen name. Mallory ran into Josh on the street, literally, on her way into town. She almost didn’t recognize him with a beard. He had worked hard on opening his own business and just hadn’t made time to shave it. But their short meeting wasn’t at all what either had secretly hoped for.

Then when Josh does just come up to her and kiss her, both of their feelings were back and then some. But that’s as far as it got due to an interruption.

Mallory wants to write something else but her editor wants her to write more of the same stuff. Josh doesn’t want her anywhere near his business’s opening day at first, but then changes his mind. Mallory tries to ignore her agent’s calls. Her town knows all about her books. Some are okay with it others are not! Then of course, there is always a witch with a “B” that can ruin anything. SO when Mallory’s publicity people appear outside of the opening selling and handing out t-shirts and books. Mallory is mortified and Josh is angry.

But what I like about this book is there is no immature resolving this issue between the two this time. Five years can do a lot in growing up. Family supports each other in this book. There is humor. There is a guy with sculpted abs scanning a climbing wall. There is love in the looks between two people who have always loved each other and I sighed at the end of it all!

Love, Diamonds, and Spades (Cactus Creek #2)
Publication: February 3rd 2015.
"Guaranteed feel-good, swoon-worthy romance!" -- New York Times Bestselling Author Erin Nicholas
From the author of the New York Times bestselling Can't Resist series, comes a fan-requested surprise addition to the USA Today bestselling Cactus Creek series.
She’s the Self-Proclaimed Wicked ‘Witch’ of the West
Fiercely independent single mom Quinn Christiansen is used to flying solo. She’s been raising her young son and figuring out how to pay his pediatric hospital bills on her own for years now. And truth is, Quinn loves the notorious reputation she’s already gained in town of having a heart too hard for any man to break. Because it is. Two carats too hard, to be exact. Courtesy of the two-carat heirloom she’d had to barter to cover her ex’s debts when he took off after she got pregnant. The day she’d promised herself never again.
So color her pissed when the universe goes and decides to make the one man in Cactus Creek not afraid of her natural ball-busting charm another gambling musician. A ridiculously handsome, wickedly gruff and gritty, pushy one at that.
He’s Everything She’s Sure She Can’t Possibly Want
Rylan Grey isn’t used to getting a woman so worked up…well, not in a bad way, at least. But somehow, his mere existence seems to annoy the guarded and gorgeous Quinn to no end. Surprising, really. A dirt-and-jeans landscaper by day with a regular gig to perform for a packed house by night, Rylan considers himself a decent guy. Sure, he’s made some gambles to get to where he’s at, but they were all of the life variety, with risks as important as the rewards, fate betting as the house, and not a single dollar in play.
While Rylan never wagers anything he’s not willing to lose—namely his heart—he’s more than ready to ante up once he sees past Quinn’s icy defenses. Quick as a firecracker, loyal to a fault, and sweet when no one’s looking, she could be his riskiest gamble yet.

An antique arms authenticator with a lifetime of martial arts training, Liana Lin has made a living turning the demons of her past into the passions that fuel, and fill, her life. She's a scrappy little thing. A sweet, angel-faced wrecking ball to his good intentions capable of making him laugh, and turning him inside out. She's a fiery, unpredictable paradox who wears her heart on her sleeve, despite the wounds he knows she has hidden as deeply as he hides his own.
Even though she's everything he's told himself he can't have, Hudson can't help but want her. Sure as sin, if one woman could sneak past the barbed wires he's wrapped around his heart, it'd be Lia.

Love, Exes, and Ohs (Cactus Creek #4)
Publication: March 17th 2015.
He may very well be the perfect ex...
Isaac McKnight has had enough loss in his life to know never to take anything for granted. So when the perfectly-imperfect-woman-for-him puts an end to their relationship out of the blue, it's Isaac that makes sure they remain friends. Now a year later, whether it's at his gym or her brewpub, or the dog park they visit every weekend--though neither of them own a dog--he and Xoey are steadily getting sucked deeper into buddy-zone galaxy, with its dangerous proximity to watch-me-settle-down-with-someone-else abyss. It's a reality he's resigned himself to. That is...until one drunken confession changes everything.
But she's looking for the perfect oh...
For Xoey Montenegro, history has taught her that sometimes, it's Prince Charming who vanishes without a trace. And fairytale love? Highly overrated. Heck, give her a real and perfect 'oh' over that fantasy any day. So as far as rock-solid tequila-fueled plans for her love life go, coming up with a match-finding formula based on the qualities of the men responsible for her three most epic ohs seems brilliant. Except for the fact that one-third of her genius little man-quation is all about her friend Isaac. Actually, more than a third if Xoey were being honest with herself--which she's not. Because full honesty would require thinking not just about how perfect Isaac really is, but also about how perfect the fourth epic oh she's kept buried deep in her past once was.
An easy enough thing to keep ignoring...until her past isn't past tense anymore.

Ketley Allison is a twenty-something (maybe almost thirty-something) author who believes that supernatural love shouldn’t stop at eighteen. She began her career by writing books as birthday presents for her friends (with her friend as the main character and opposite a super sexy lead, of course) before ending it in order to walk down a path she thought she was supposed to follow.

The writing bug never left her—and, in fact, would often bleed into the official papers she was supposed to write—so now Ketley’s putting down her suit and finally following her dream. While her friends are no longer the stars of her books, she still throws in bits and pieces of them into each and every one of her characters.

As a result, her books tend to focus a lot on friendships as well as love, because let’s be honest, friends are what really get you through—especially when your epic love turns into epic heartbreak.

Book Review: Nowhere But Here (Thunder Road #1) by Katie McGarry

Nowhere But Here (Thunder Road #1)
by Katie McGarry.
Audience/Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary.
Publication: May 26th 2015 by Harlequin Teen.
An unforgettable new series from acclaimed author Katie McGarry about taking risks, opening your heart and ending up in a place you never imagined possible

Seventeen-year-old Emily likes her life the way it is: doting parents, good friends, good school in a safe neighborhood. Sure, she's curious about her biological father—the one who chose life in a motorcycle club, the Reign of Terror, over being a parent—but that doesn't mean she wants to be a part of his world. But when a reluctant visit turns to an extended summer vacation among relatives she never knew she had, one thing becomes clear: nothing is what it seems. Not the club, not her secret-keeping father and not Oz, a guy with suck-me-in blue eyes who can help her understand them both.

Oz wants one thing: to join the Reign of Terror. They're the good guys. They protect people. They're…family. And while Emily—the gorgeous and sheltered daughter of the club's most respected member—is in town, he's gonna prove it to her. So when her father asks him to keep her safe from a rival club with a score to settle, Oz knows it's his shot at his dream. What he doesn't count on is that Emily just might turn that dream upside down.

No one wants them to be together. But sometimes the right person is the one you least expect, and the road you fear the most is the one that leads you home.

And we have a Touchdown!! Score another great story by Katie McGarry!

This book went by way too fast! The characters were intriguing. The plot more than fantastic! There was an element of mystery and suspense that kept me more than just engaged, it kept me wanting to know more and more and not allowing me to stop for anything. (Sorry to my family!) I really had no idea what the secrets and the lies were about! I had some inkling but I didn’t see it coming until it was revealed and my heart was pumping hard in a “NO WAY!” fashion. I also liked the dual POV.

I was reluctant to read this book. I am not into MC books. But it was Katie McGarry here and so I read it! I am so glad I did. Because I judged and this book was like a slap to my face for judging others! And I needed Kleenex in the end because I was so wrapped up in all that was Emily and Oz and their MC family that I was happy for them and all that they went through to get to the end.

Anyway, Emily met her biological father a few years back. She was curious. But it was always awkward. She was happy with her mom and her adoptive father. But a message came that kind of said that Olivia had died. So, Emily’s mom decided to go to the wake. They all get separated and Emily is talking to her biological father, Eli, when Olivia (Emily’s biological grandmother) sits up in the coffin and scares Emily to screaming. Then after some major chaos, Emily is with Oz (a boy about her age and very attractive to Emily) and still scared but she has just enough spunk to both admire Oz and let him have it. And Oz is interested!

They’re probably wondering if I’m going to spaz any any second. So here’s the thing: they may not be wrong.

Oz is tasked to follow Emily and protect her from some kind of danger in the form of a rival MC that is illegitimate. While waiting outside their motel, Oz falls asleep. He wakes to noise seeing Emily outside getting a drink from the vending machine and someone else outside. He calls to alert Eli and grabs Emily and they are backed up in a spider web infested corner, waiting for danger to pass. Meanwhile, they both notice how close they are to each other and they both don’t seem to mind. The chemistry is palpable between them. Yet at the same time, Oz can’t wait for her to leave. Her family has been a sore spot for the Reign of Terror MC

Next thing you know, Emily is staying with her grandmother. Emily’s parents go home and let her spend time with Eli’s family. There we find out that there are secrets and lies. Because nothing adds up in Emily’s mind. Why would he be so interested in her if he gave his rights up? What is this picture about that Olivia gave her that has a baby picture of her in it? Oz is waiting to become a full fledged member for the Reign of Terror MC. It’s family. He is so sweet and kind to others and he screwed up his mission and he won’t do it again. He wants to be part of this world so badly. But his family wants more for him. He lived with Olivia for years before going back to live with his family.

I loved the witty banter between just about anyone in this book. But I loved this one between Oz and Emily...

"You almost kissed me and so now you're going to behave like an ass?" "I didn't hear you telling me to stop, and if your going to call me a name, get it right. I'm an asshole." I cross my arms over my chest. "My apologies. I forgot that you wanted me to own my opinions. You're right. You are an asshole."

Now Emily has a very limited time to figure out the lies and secrets that are about her. She is also growing very fond of her grandmother Olivia. Olivia is dying of cancer and wants Emily to figure the truth out and be happy. Emily wants the truth too. Everyone seems to know things and even Oz won’t tell her the secrets. But Oz doesn’t even know it all. Time is ticking and as Emily gets closer to answers, she only finds more questions and now she is in more danger. Or is it all a game as her adopted dad seems to think it is.

The only thing I didn’t like was their makeout scenes. I dunno but it was …. Weird?

One thing is for sure, you will have your own questions and you will demand nothing less than the truth as you read this and find yourself wanting Emily to figure it all out and find happiness with Oz.

No one wants them to be together. But sometimes the right person is the one you least expect, and the road you fear the most is the one that leads you home.

From Emily's Point of View. Set up: Emily is riding a motorcycle for the very first time and she's riding it with Oz.

THE MOTORCYCLE ACCELERATES AND THE FEW inches I had established between me and Oz: gone. My body slides forward, colliding into his, and we click together like two puzzle pieces. Heat rushes up my neck and onto my cheeks. My thighs are too close to his, too tight against his body and this is way more intimate than I have been before with a guy.
Even when the two of us kissed.
Oz veers left, away from Olivia’s, away from the main road, and the entire motorcycle pitches to the side. My heart thunders and my fingers clutch not only at Oz’s belt loop, but at the material of his jeans, and his hips.
Oz glances at me over his shoulder as the bike straightens out. “Lean with it, Emily.”
Right. Lean with Oz and the bike. Got it. The narrow road curves ahead and this time when Oz and the bike tilt, I move along with it. Oz releases one of the amazingly high handlebars and massages my knee before returning his hand to the grip. Whether in reassurance or to affirm I mastered the curve I don’t know, but either way, I sit higher.
The wind whips through my hair and onto my face and I shut my eyes for a brief second and pretend that I’m flying. There’s something energizing, something hypnotic, something inside me that begs to burst out of a cage in search of freedom.
The motorcycle kicks forward and our speed increases. Beams of sunlight filter through the towering trees and green foliage blurs together as we fly over the road. From head to toe, my body vibrates with the loud growling of the powerful machine.
My knee still tingles from where Oz laid his fingers on me and I’ve never been more aware of my hands in my life. I should let go of Oz’s body, but I can’t. Belt loops weren’t enough and my fingers have somehow edged up and onto his sides. Oz is solid. Yes, definitely solid. Every inch of him that I touch is tight muscle.
Oz is a year older than me, but somehow he seems older, wiser and hotter than any other guy I’ve known. Just the way he rides his bike creates this overabundance of confidence.
Warm sensations I’ve never experienced before blossom through me. We enter another curve and I lean with him. I like how in sync I’ve become with Oz and the motorcycle. Like we’ve merged into one.
The purr of the engine deepens and Oz eases the bike to a stop. His feet hit the ground and he turns the machine off. It’s as if all sound in the world ceased, or maybe I’ve gone deaf because there’s no way anything can be this still or silent.
The wind picks up and the silence is frightened away with the roar of the trees bending. Both Oz and I shift with the flow of air and Oz doesn’t move the bike until the breeze gentles.
Oz kicks down the stand and the bike tilts, but not too much. He sets a hand over the fingers that I laced together across his stomach. Oh, hell, I’m plastic wrapped to him. I drop my head onto his shoulder and it places me closer, and closer is not what I need.
I go to unglue myself, but Oz squeezes my fingers, sending a jolt of electricity up my arms. “You okay?”
I have to clear my throat to speak and that just sucks. “Yes.”
Oz slides his fingers against mine and a fluttering occurs in my stomach. It’s a light fluttering. Ticklish even, and my survival instincts scream at me to get off this motorcycle.
