Hunter Waters has loved only one woman for his entire life.

Unfortunately she's his brother's girlfriend, Ever Allen. Hunter isn't the kind of guy to betray family, but when his brother Sam has to leave town and asks Hunter to look after her, the feelings he's fought for years can no longer be buried.

Ever can't think of a time when both Waters brothers hadn't been watching her back. Sam's boldness had charmed her, but now Hunter's quiet, steady strength makes her feel safe for the first time in her crazy, messed-up life. But how can she choose between the only two people in the world to have cared about her? How can she live with loving one brother if it means breaking the other's heart?

This is a sweet book about a girl who loves two brothers very differently and how she comes to see which type of love she really needs.

Sam and Hunter have always been there for Ever. They live in a small town and after Ever’s mom died, her dad became physically abusive. Then one day, she knew this was the day he would kill her. She called for Sam to come over and he reminds her of the gun in her room. She pulls it out in time for her father breaking the door down and her to shoot several bullets at him. Sam cleans off the gun and handles it and places it down and tells Ever he is running off till things calm down and he will come back for her. See, Ever’s dad is tight with the sheriff and he wouldn’t believe her even though she has had several injuries over time.

Hunter doesn’t agree with Sam and he stays with Ever. He is there for her every need. He protects her. He has also always loved her and he knows Ever better than Sam does. But since she chose Sam, he has stayed in the shadows. But, little by little, Ever sees Hunter in a new light and realizes that he has always known her better and that maybe she loves him more. She fights it and worries that she is also losing Sam since they have minimal contact.

The more time Hunter and Ever spend together, the more Hunter opens up to her. Then he kisses her and she slaps him. But she kissed him back so….

What I enjoyed was watching Ever see that Hunter is more like her than Sam and that Sam wants something else. Ever doesn’t want to hurt either one, but realizes it is too late and someone will be hurt and she is in utter turmoil.

When they all go and meet Sam, his life is very different and one Ever isn’t sure she wants. Then Ever shuts everyone out once they get home as she doesn’t think any relationship is good and she spends time becoming Ever before she realizes what it is she wants.

I liked the games Ever and Hunter always played with each other since childhood and how it morphs into something more.

So, if you like staring contests, kind of a love triangle, overcoming physical abuse, finding yourself, then this might be a story for you!
