One lost love.
One lost best friend.
One hot soul reaper.
Straight out of the psyche ward, Cora just wants her life to be normal. She doesn’t want to see souls or the reapers collecting them. The love of her life, the guy she’s loved from a distance for years, has moved away without saying goodbye. So yes, she’s nursing a serious heartbreak. It’s no wonder love is the last thing on her mind when Echo storms into her life.
The chemistry between them is mind-blowing. The connection defies logic. It doesn’t help that Echo is the poster boy for everything she hates in a guy—hot, beautiful, and cocky. A general pain-in-the-butt. Being around him makes her feel more alive than she’s ever felt before. But more important, the souls leave her alone when he is around.
Echo is perfect for her. Echo might even be her soul-mate. There is only one problem. Echo is a freaking soul reaper. A Grimnir. The very beings she wants out of her life. Maybe normal is overrated because Cora wants it all. Answers. Love. A life. You see, once you fall for a Grimnir, your life will never be the same again.
At home, I stepped out of the truck and stared in shock at the huge dent on the side and runes drawn all over it. How could my parents not see the dent or the runes? I knew runes were powerful enough to make people invisible. Obviously, they also made people not see things.
Mom put her arm around me. “It’s amazing, isn’t it? No mark on the car after we almost landed in a ditch.”
No marks indeed. I wished my parents goodnight on the run, needing to be in my room. Please, let him be there. I pushed open the door and looked inside.
It was empty.
“Echo?” I called out, but there was no response.
Disappointed, I got ready for bed, fought sleep, and waited for him as long as I could. Where was he? Was he the dark figure in the middle of the road? Had one of his people tried to kill us? Why had an Immortal marked me?
Cora wants a normal life. She has been in a psych ward for a while and while Cora thought no one cared enough to visit her, Maliina had impersonated her. Now that Cora is back she thinks she must have astral projected herself to school or something because everyone is saying stuff about her being at school while she was in the loony bin. Stuff about her and guys getting together. Cora is majorly confused. And since she sees dead souls everywhere, she doesn’t know who to talk to without someone sending her right back to the psych ward!
Echo comes to her, also thinking that she was the one he had been with before. But Cora tells him at first he must be mistaken because she wasn’t there. Then she kind of falls for him because who wouldn’t he is hotness personified and he is drooling over her. Slowly, he really falls for her too. When he learns she really isn’t an immortal, he backs off. He says he is no good for her. He is a grimnir and is tainted. But Cora doesn’t think so and she gets to know him like really know him and his past. She is determined to be with him and then sometimes she thinks he doesn’t really care for her. But he always seems to show up just when she needs him.
Raine has been busy with her father who had a stroke to tell her what really happened. Eirick is with his grandfather training and can’t come home, to the mortal realm of earth that is, and all he can think about is coming home to Cora.
When all the information is laid out and all the players are aware of what is going on; well, it’s intense!
The story gets thicker and thicker as time goes on and I couldn’t put the book down until I got to the end. But this story rocks. I really thought “meh” when it comes to Norse Mythology but now I am a fan. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book because the stakes are getting higher and higher and someone is bound to get seriously hurt!
