Recently dumped by the man she’d planned to marry, no-nonsense attorney Thea Dunn has returned home to Magnolia Bay to mend her broken heart. But when she learns her new neighbor is Calder Frye, the bad boy who sets the pulse of every good girl at Magnolia Bay High racing, Thea’s verdict to swear off men is in danger of being overturned…

Fourteen years after graduation, Calder has traded his rebel lifestyle to become an ER doctor—but his sex appeal is every bit as powerful as Thea remembers. Could her short-term residence be the perfect chance to live out a teenage fantasy? Or could their reunion be a chance for something more?

High School Prom had Thea upset because her date was all twisted up in another girl. So Thea started walking and just kept walking until Calder, the senior hottie, found her and took her out for burgers.

Now, 14 years later, Thea is an attorney and Calder a doctor. Their paths collide again when Thea’s house is overrun with termites and she goes home while the extermination takes place. It also just so happens, that Calder is living next door to her rental place. They both still have feelings for each other even if it was one chaste evening so long ago.

Thea’s boyfriend/attorney broke up with her three months ago. He didn’t even correspond with her for those three months, no phone calls, no texts, and no email! Thea thought there would be a happily ever after.

Now seeing Calder again, she sees things with him are more exciting than her boyfriend ever was. He is sweet and helpful, her heart beats faster and sparks fly.

Calder and Thea are hanging out one day away from home and Calder’s family call to say that Calder’s dad, being the alcoholic that he is, is causing trouble. Thea tells him to go there first instead of taking her home because it is closer. So, she sees the tension in their family. She talks to his father before anyone realizes where he is. He is calm with her. Calder’s brother has a little secret too and he is in denial about their father.

The more time they spend together the more they both want to see where this relationship will go. But, how will they do it with her home a little ways away. Then, to make matters worse, her ex comes back and proposes to her. Say What?? She doesn’t say yes but she doesn’t say no either and Calder finds out and backs off.

Calder has an opportunity to take a job in the ER in California. He decides to go check it out. There isn’t really anything keeping him in Magnolia Bay anymore. His brother and he fight over their dad and Thea is back in her home and with her ex.

Thea realizes she doesn’t want her ex and she wants Calder. But he is gone. Then, when Thea runs into Marie, Calder’s sister- in-law, she finds out the farm is in trouble because her drunken father in-law fired all the workers. Thea calls Calder since his brother wouldn’t call (men and their pride) and Calder comes home to help pick the strawberries. The next morning Calder and his family see Thea roll up with her family and help to pick the strawberries that needed to be picked that day.

Now the rest of the story you have to read for yourself.

This is a cute story of second and third chances and family, and finding love.

My only dislike is for a story with an alcoholic in it, there is a lot of alcohol in the story.

On the long and winding road to becoming published, she worked many different jobs, including carpenter, cake decorator, art director, and illustrator. But if pressed, she might say it was her brief tenure with a match-making service in Los Angeles after college that set her on the path to writing love stories (not that there isn't romance in frosting or power tools!) A native New Englander, she now makes her home in Charlotte, NC, with her husband, a native New Orleanian who has taught her to make a wicked gumbo, and their two little mermaids.
