When he drives, I look up and out the window, and the stars seem to streak across the sky like they’re falling. Some part of my brain makes me want to wish on them, even though I know it’s just an optical illusion.

What’s a wish, except an illusion of the heart?

● This is a scene that comes after a few weeks of Vin really making an effort to push Keira away. As far as he's concerned, he has excellent reasons to do that, but she's crushed. Eventually, he winds up needing her, and, even though she's been so pushed away and hurt, she helps him. So she's happy to see Vin doing well, but there's this underlying sadness. This quote plays with something they loved doing together: wishing on stars. Keira's remembering how good that once made her felt and realizing how much things have changed. But she always has hope it'll work, and that hope is what keeps their relationship going when the odds are stacked against them.
