Taken with You (Kowalski Family #8)
by Shannon Stacey.
Audience/Genre: Adult, Contemporary, Romance.
Publication: March 25th 2014 by Carina Press.
Hailey Genest has seen most of her friends marry and have babies, and she's happy for them, but it was a lot easier before she hit forty. She's spent her entire life in Whitford, Maine, and if she hasn't found her Prince Charming by now, she has to accept she's probably not going to. When a new friend suggests they go on an adventure and embrace being single, Hailey agrees.

Surviving in the woods is game warden Matt Barnett's idea of a relaxing vacation. But when he meets two women in need of help, he leads them back to safety - a task that proves more fun than expected, thanks to a certain hot blonde. He can't resist pushing her buttons, even though she's made it clear that the rugged, outdoorsy type just isn't for her.

Hailey is glad to see the back of her tempting-tour-guide-slash-pain-in-the-ass. When he shows up in her life again, she's determined to avoid him, no matter how good he looks in his uniform. But that's easier said than done in Whitford, especially when he's renting the house right next door...

Top 10 Reasons to Love Adult Contemporary Romance…

1. The names are usually easy to pronounce, with a minimum of apostrophes, and there’s no glossary needed!
2. There’s something to be said for a man undressing—pulling his T-shirt over his head to show off those romance cover abs and the slow unbuttoning of his fly—rather than his clothes magically disappearing when he turns into a wolf or black panther. (Seriously. Where do they go? Better yet, how do they come back?)
3. No corsets! They might look sexy, but my mother does French & Indian War reenacting and, not only would breathing heavy be a problem for a turned-on heroine, but the hero could have a meal and a nap in the time it takes to get out of one.
4. The conflicts tend to be ones we identify with, like family and money and falling for men we don’t think we should. Saving the world or chasing demons can be fun, but sometimes we want to read about people like us finding happily ever after.
5. The heroes come in many flavors. Gritty bikers, sophisticated CEOs, hardened military men, and blue-collar working guys. No matter what kind of man pushes your buttons, contemporary romance has him.
6. Nobody’s shooting at them or trying to destroy their souls with magic while the hero and heroine are trying to have sexy times.
7. Technology! It’s very cool to have characters with smartphones and Facebook and texting. (Except when you want a character to be unable to communicate and then it’s a challenge coming up with reasons his or her cell phone is not an option.)
8. Whether you’re in the mood for emotionally gripping or fun, big city or small town, sexy or sweet, contemporary romance has it and there are so many great authors writing the genre right now. Robyn Carr, Julie James, Jill Shalvis, Jaci Burton, Marie Force, Susan Mallery…I could literally fill pages with books and authors to recommend.
9. Indoor plumbing. (I admit to wondering during my teen years, when I was immersed in western and medieval historical romances, wondering just how all that worked.)
10. Adult contemporary romance is reality wrapped in romantic fantasy. Whether he’s a biker or a businessman or a blue-collar guy with a tool belt, the men of contemporary romance (mostly) exist. A woman could run into the contemporary romance hero of her dreams at the gas station. I guess there’s always a chance a woman could run into a vampire or a were-dragon at the gas station, too, but I suspect her initial reaction wouldn’t be overwhelming sexual attraction. Contemporary romance heroes could literally be the guy next door.

Thanks so much for inviting me to share my top reasons for loving adult contemporary romance! I’d love to hear why other people love it, as well!

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Shannon Stacey lives with her husband and two sons in New England, where her two favorite activities are writing stories of happily ever after and riding her four-wheeler. From May to November, the Stacey family spends their weekends on their ATVs, making loads of muddy laundry to keep Shannon busy when she’s not at her computer. She prefers writing to laundry, however, and considers herself lucky she got to be an author when she grew up.
