Lauren Wilson is well on her way to her happily-ever-after. She’s passionate about her career as a middle school English teacher, she adores her handsome, hard-working husband, and with a baby finally on the way, her perfect life is within her grasp.

But then a devastating test result changes everything.

Forced to choose between her baby and her husband, Lauren makes the only decision she can live with, and she returns to her small hometown in hopes of rebuilding her shattered life.

Ethan Campbell is a gifted photographer who travels the world and has no desire to settle down. When his mother dies, he must go home to settle her estate. Then it’s back to exciting adventures across the globe.

When Lauren crosses paths with Ethan, her teenage crush, old feelings resurface—feelings she’s not prepared to face. Will Lauren have the courage to trust again or will she spend her life alone?

Imperfect Love is a story about sacrifice, healing, second chances, and discovering that although love isn’t always perfect, sometimes it’s the imperfect love that’s the sweetest of all

An Excerpt...

The door out to the garage opened into the dining area. “Mom, I can’t find the—”

“Ethan, come in here,” Mrs. Campbell said with a strained voice.

Ethan stepped into the house. His black hair was a bit longer and his shoulders were broader since
the last time Lauren saw him. He still easily earned the nickname of Adonis. Ethan smiled and said,
“Hello,” as he strode across the room.

“You remember Emily and—”

“Lauren.” Lauren was surprised he remembered. “Yes, of course I do.” He stuck out his hand. “Mrs.
Van Allen. You are looking very well. How are you?”

Lauren’s mom shook his hand. “I’m good. How are you? It’s been years.”

“Yes, it has.” He turned to Lauren and extended his hand. For a moment, she wasn’t sure if she
should shake it, because it was if she’d fallen into a time warp, and she was still the awkward
teenager who couldn’t string two words together in front of him. She then reminded herself that
she was a mature adult, and her silly crush was a lifetime ago. She reciprocated and shook his
hand. “How are you, Lauren?”

She was struck by the sincerity in his tone, as if he actually cared how she was. “I’m great. You?”

“Doing well.”

“Ethan’s here for a few days to help me with some things around the house.” Mrs. Campbell’s pride was evident.

“I’m not really the handyman she thinks I am.” He smiled the same million-dollar smile that had driven the girls at Durango High School crazy. Ethan had been a celebrity back then, and girls talked about him all the time.

Ethan sat in a chair next to his mom. He laid his hand across hers. In a tender voice he asked, “Can I get you anything, Mom?”

This is a difficult book to read. So many emotions here; anger, sorrow, guilt, sadness, forgiveness, and hope.

We have Lauren who after trying for 2 years finally gets pregnant. She is ecstatic to say the least and she wants to share the news with her husband, Paul, first. She almost spills the beans to others before she could tell Paul because she was just so happy. She makes a plan of how she is going to surprise her husband with the news. Paul is a lawyer in his dad’s firm and has been working a lot lately. He doesn’t come home till very late, so she doesn’t tell him then. When she can surprise him with the news, he seems okay with it but not as overjoyed as Lauren is. When the first doctor’s appt comes up, he doesn’t show. She is disappointed but realizes he is working very hard. He does come to the ultrasound appt. There is no chemistry between the two. They are just living and going through the motions of life. She is so happy and she begins to become more and more disappointed in his lack of caring of this pregnancy. He chooses work over being at the appointments. Then when a test comes back that the baby has Down’s Syndrome, Paul doesn’t take it well. He doesn’t talk to Lauren about it, and then when he does talk about it, he tells her that he talked to his parents about it and thinks they should abort the baby. Lauren is rightfully angry that he talked to his parents before talking to her. Then she decides to agree with him. They go to the clinic and she realizes she can’t go through with it and has to practically scream at Paul to take her home. He starts working longer and they don’t talk at all until he decides a divorce would be best and that he doesn’t want any ties to the baby. Lauren is devastated but agrees. She goes to live with her mom.

It’s at her mom’s where she finds her old high school crush, Ethan, and she helps him fix his mother’s house so he can sell it. She doesn’t tell him she’s pregnant. She has feelings for him and you can obviously see he has feelings for her. She is afraid to tell him she is pregnant, but he does know that they are divorced. She doesn’t tell him why. As time goes by, the feelings get stronger and he kisses her. She flees the scene. She doesn’t think anyone can love her or her imperfect child. She feels she has to protect her heart. Sometimes, I wanted to slap her. But she only has her experience with Paul and doesn’t communicate well. She could just have talked about things with Ethan and let him decide but she just didn’t, it would be too devastating to her. He continues to pursue her gently and then confesses that he doesn’t want to be tied down and then he says he wonders what it would be like to come home to her every day. But she only hears the “don’t want to be tied down” part.

Paul comes back and wants a second chance. His apologizes and has made some serious changes but what will she do and who will she choose and why and will she be able to open her heart to anyone but her sweet son is what you have to find out. She wants to do what’s best for her child not for herself. So her decisions aren’t made lightly.
The ending had me crying.

What I liked was the unconditional love and selflessness of Lauren for her unborn imperfect child. I loved Ethan and the things he did for Lauren. I mean what kind of man is selfless enough to do that!?!
