Faith Fitzpatrick isn’t looking for a hero. Burned one too many times in the past, she’s now sworn them off completely. And when her brother’s best friend, Connor, convinces him to join the dangerous SWAT team, Faith has never been more anti-hero. What’s wrong with having a safe job? There’s nothing safe about Connor. Confident, sexy, and sporting a six-pack that should be illegal, he’s everything she doesn’t want.

When his best friend’s sister moves to town, local cop Connor Maguire knows he’s in trouble. Faith is feisty, funny, and talks trash like nobody’s business. She’s also his partner’s sister—and so totally off limits. Working on the Fall Festival together, they agree to a truce and become friends. But the more time Connor spends with Faith, the more he’s willing to risk the wrath of her brother. If he could only convince her to take a risk on him, too.

That’s what did through most of the book. I loved it from the beginning to the end. It is realistic. I have a son and a brother in the sheriff’s department out on the streets and I know how Faith felt. It is scary, but I see them for helping others and keeping us safe. My brother can make any of his stories very funny when he recalls them to us. That helps too. I also live in the Charlotte area where the book takes place so that was nice too. And I being a labor and delivery nurse just put the book up another notch. And I am like Faith in that I sometimes run from my troubles. I am ashamed to admit it but there it is.

Connor is a player and his friends are all starting to settle down. He didn’t plan on that and he didn’t plan falling for his partner’s sister. Which, Kaleb, Faith’s brother, did not want him anywhere near her. He told her and Connor that they couldn’t be together. Faith lost her father in the line of duty and was having a hard time with those still, years later, and that Faith had a jerk of a boyfriend who she found cheating on her in their condo they bought together. So Faith was a little skittish but she had some good wit and humor. Connor fell for that. He liked that she wasn’t boring and that she tried to ignore him. Connor knows he is good looking and can charm anyone. He also has his secrets and does eventually share it with Faith.

I loved Connor; he is great with kids and people and family and has a big heart even though he is cocky. He loves to banter with Faith. I loved that. Faith could dish it out to him and they were so cute together. It was sweet, funny, tender, heroic, and a family kind of story. Sex fades to black. It was just a book that I just kept sighing and giggling with and will definitely be reread in years to come.
