But before battle commences her father is given an ultimatum from the enemy leader, Arfron Uhnok. If the king agrees, Halíka Dacomé must marry Arfron Uhnok to prevent further bloodshed. If the king disagrees they, as a race, will all perish.

Horrified by her fathers decision Halíka Dacomé leads her army onward regardless of the consequences. Because her heart belongs to another. A love that blossomed many years ago. A love that her father has forbidden.

Halíka faces her toughest battle yet and learns that not all battles are those fought with a sword...

The Battle for Arcanon Major is an epic love story set against the backdrop of war and is the first Prequel to Elemental: The First.

Enjoy an excerpt....

“Please, citizens of Arcanon, this day belongs to all of us. We should all celebrate—”

A gasp caught in my throat. I sensed him before I saw him. My body suddenly felt drained as he and three others stepped closer through the throng. The others on the platform turned slowly to see what had stopped my address. The crowd peered round to see also.

His black cloak was drawn over his face as he continued an unobtrusive, slow meander through the crowds. No one guessed—but I knew whose face lay underneath that black shroud. All eyes turned in his direction as he pulled back his hood.

He pointed the firing weapon in my direction and pulled the trigger.

A voice shouted beside me. Nerído pushed the others aside and reached his arms out towards me.

I watched the Xerilium bullet leave the barrel and hurtle its way through the air.

“Halíka!” Nerí shouted from too far away. My feet were dead, rooted to the platform, unable to move.

The bullet hit my stomach and stopped with a thunk. Blood slowly began to ooze from the wound, seeping out, soaking my tunic.

Hands scraped against my clothes as they tried to grab. Fingers fumbled at my hair and arms, but they weren’t close enough.

As I fell forward, screams erupted from the horrified crowd and echoed in a whirlwind around the Arc.

“Halíka! No!”

I was soaring, just as I’d seen in my vision. The soft air buffeted my skin and filtered in through my clothes.

Just like a sparrow hawk, the cool wind breezed through my outstretched fingers and whistled past my ears.

Except this time, I wasn’t a bird feeling the thermals under my wings.

I hit the unforgiving floor, breaking every limb and shattering my spine. The Xerilium started its cruel journey, swelling from the exploded bullet in my gut.

I had just lost the war that had unexpectedly turned black.

Halika is a wonderful, determined, caring and righteous person who truly has her people's will at her heart. She is a true warrior and shields her emotions and when she opens them up well.. she is all kinds of betrayed at the end and it broke my heart. I felt extremely depressed after reading the book because I felt no hope for her. I want to see something happen in the next book or I will be too sad to move on!!

I know that isn't much of a review but it is how I felt. I don't want to drag you down. The story is a good one. The writing is good. But her loss broke my heart.

Book Tour and Giveaway: A Bargained-For Bride by Marcia Lynn McClure

Tour Schedule

A Bargained-For Bride
by Marcia Lynn McClure.
Audience/Genre: Clean Romance, Western.
Publication: August 2013.
Novella

“You’re the sweetest girl in Mourning Dove Creek, you know?” Jack mumbled as he paused in kissing Jilly a moment.

Jilly smiled. “And you’re the handsomest man in Mourning Dove Creek, you know,” she flirted in return.

Jack smiled. “I do know,” he said.

Jilly giggled. Jack Taylor was so predictable—and a little conceited. He really did think he was the handsomest man in Mourning Dove—and he was, for the most part.

Secretly, however, if Jilly ever allowed herself to be completely honest about it (which she tried to avoid), there was one other man in Mourning Dove who always crossed her mind when the subject of the handsomest man in town arose. Yet there was no lingering on thinking of that man—no sirree! Not for a moment! Not for any reason—ever. And so Jilly just kept telling Jack that he was the handsomest man in Mourning Dove Creek. Besides, it was almost true—being that the other man lived outside of town and not right in town the way Jack did.

Blog Tour and Giveaway: Friends and Traitors (Slayers #2) by C.J. Hill

Friends and Traitors (Slayers #2)
by C.J. Hill.
Audience/Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy.
Publication: October 15th 2013 by Feiwel & Friends.
In C.J. Hill's action-packed sequel to Slayers, the group of teens known as Slayers have been betrayed—but they won’t give up without a fight.

Tori’s got a problem. She thought she’d have one more summer to train as a dragon Slayer, but time has run out. When Tori hears the horrifying sound of dragon eggs hatching, she knows the Slayers are in trouble. In less than a year, the dragons will be fully grown and completely lethal. The Slayers are well-prepared, but their group is still not complete, and Tori is determined to track down Ryker—the mysterious missing Slayer.

What Tori doesn’t bargain for, however, is the surprising truth about her powers. She isn’t just a Slayer, she’s part Dragon Lord, too. How can Tori fight to save her friends when half of her is programmed to protect dragons? And with a possible traitor in their midst, the Slayers will be divided in more ways than they ever imagined.

I so want to read this book. I am sadly behind on obligations and haven't read what I wanted to. But in December I am getting back on track and reading this one. YES! If you haven't read any of her books as the author Janette Rallison, she is funny and witty and down right cute and you have to check them out! Check out the first book on goodreads HERE
Follow the rest of the tour HERE

Check out the playlist. I arranged it so you just have to push a button to listen to it while you read more on the playlist and the tour...

Playlist for Slayers: Friends and Traitors

Demons, by Imagine Dragons.
This song fits Dirk so well. Interestingly enough it's easy to find songs about tormented bad boys. Apparently there are a lot of tormented bad boys who are also song writers.

Radioactive, by Imagine Dragons
Actually, pretty much anything from Imagine Dragons. They do after all have the word Dragons in their title. Plus their music seems like it could be background music to tense fight scenes.

Picture to Burn, by Taylor Swift.
Tori sings one line of this song in Slayers: Friends and Traitors. She only sings one line of the song due to copyright laws. It's hard to have characters who sing much.

Discord--The Living Tombstone remix, by Eurobeat Brony.
Yes, I know this isn't a song you expected, but I have an elementary age daughter who played the song a lot while I was writing. I grew to like Discord. Every playlist needs an upbeat, snazzy villain song.

Gone, Gone, Gone , by Phillip Phillips (He clearly has a thing about word repetition.)
With lyrics like: "When enemies are at your door, I'll carry you away from war." and "When you fall like a statue, I'm gonna be there to catch you." this song just had to be included. Not that Tori falls and someone catches her . . .

Jessie's Girl, by Rick Springfield.
Rick Springfield could have written this song for my series. In fact, if anyone asks, I'll claim he did.

Uptown Girl, by Billy Joel
Tori is, after all, a socialite. There aren't as many songs about socialites as you would think, so I'm going with this one.

Mirrors, by Justin Timberlake
For no other reason than it was my favorite song during revisions. Imagine my teenage son who isn't a Justin fan and I fighting in the car about whether this song should be played or not. That's the sort of tension and angst writers use to produce great art.

Anything by the Bee Gees
This is because the dragon lord--in an attempt to be annoying--forces Tori to listen to the Bee Gees. Okay, sure, we all loved them in the 70s but after a few decades that falsetto sound starts to grate on your ears.

Lastly, if you happen to be reading this list of songs around Christmastime, then by all means include the song Do You Hear What I Hear? Tori would appreciate the humor.

About the Author: CJ Hill is a pen name for a YA author who is best known for writing romantic comedies. (Slayers will be her 18th published book.) Her writing has shifted away from the romantic comedy genre, so her editor thought a pen name would be a good idea. (New books will include: dangerous dragons, time travel to dystopian worlds, and flesh-eating beetles.) Since the publisher refused to let her have the pseudonym : The Artist Formerly Referred to as Princess, she chose a name to honor her mother. CJ Hill was her mother's pen name, or at least it would have been if her mother had published. Her mother wrote a few children's books and a middle grade novel but was taken by cancer before she had fully learned the craft.
(Most writers' first novels aren't publishable. CJ Junior's first novel wasn't, but somehow was published anyway. Now, even though it is out of print, it remains forever available on Amazon, where it taunts her with its badness. This was another good reason to use a pen name.)
CJ Hill has five children, three of whom like her on any given day depending on who is in trouble. She has lived in Arizona for the last half of her life, but is still in desert denial and hopes that one day her garden will grow silver bells and cockle shells or maybe just tomatoes

**Mature Content Warning** 17+ for language and sexual content**

Here is an excerpt. Darcie....

Suddenly, I am transported back in time to three years ago. The feeling of being pinned down by my arms and legs, the feeling of a man’s weight restraining me and the inability to breathe flashes into my mind. I start to violently shake my head from side to side. My breathing gets short and fast. Without even realizing it, I start to scream; just like I did the night he planned to touch me.

Jake freaks out and quickly releases my body from under his. “Shit, Darcie, I’m sorry. I forgot how you get.”

I’m still screaming, unable to move. I’m frozen to the carpet. I’m still in that house. Lying on that urine soaked bed.

Salvation arrives.

Reggie appears out of the nowhere. He kneels down beside me. His hands are wiping the anger away from my face as he whispers into my ear, “Shhh, Darcie. It’s okay. I won’t let him hurt you again, never again. As long as there’s breathe left in my body, he will never harm you again.” His voice is all I need to hear. My eyes begin to focus. My brain begins to register the only true protector I’ve had in my life.

**Minor explicit scenes and language**

Forgiving your brother's murderer may be noble, but falling in love with him borders on betrayal.

When Paige Zukowski enrolls at Granton University in honor of her dead brother, she has no idea fate will land her on the same campus with the very guy who killed him. But Logan Xander isn't quite the murderer she's always believed him to be.

A day hasn't passed since the tragedy that Logan doesn't wish he could go back and undo everything. It doesn't take Paige long to realize he's suffered as much as she has. Forgiving him for ruining her life might not be so impossible after all. But when she actually starts to like him and realizes he likes her in return, their true anguish begins.

Reviewed by Kelly.

This is a beautifully written story of forgiveness, healing and creating your own life’s story.

Paige and Logan go to the same school. Both for reasons that neither really wanted of their own. But fate seems to take control with them. Paige starts school and while in class she hears the professor call Logan’s name. She freezes. She feels hatred and anger and everything that boils under her skin with that name. He killed her brother. She came to this school to live his life for him. Then the professor calls her name. Logan locks eyes with her. Paige runs out. But fate keeps putting them together.

Paige hates him but can’t stop thinking about him. She runs into him again and he tells her he dropped out of the class. Hmm.

Then her suite mates at school tell her about a grief group and she decides to give it a try. Guess who goes there too? Yep, Logan! But she sees he helps out and he is quiet. He freezes this time in the group when the leader asks why she is at the grief group and she tells them about her brother and that he was murdered. The leader asks what she would say to the person who killed her brother if he were here. She looks at him and she can’t be as mean as she would like to be but says some things. Logan gets up and leaves. At the end, the leader says she is going to look for him but Paige sees she went the wrong way and she goes to check on him. Hmm... She finds him on the floor, broken and sad. She talks to him for a moment. He has been with this group for 2 years but she gets him to stop coming. Paige never told anyone in the group that Logan was the one who killed him.

Then fate takes another turn when they end up working in the same place. His boss asks Logan to train her. She doesn’t have it so she asks the other guy to train her. The other guy has no work ethics. She notices that Logan does and is a hard worker not some arrogant killer she thought he would be since he is the son of a rich lawyer. The other guy leaves Logan to clean up and she can’t just leave him to clean up on his own, so she stays. Because the other guy didn’t teach her some safety protocols, Paige cuts her finger and Logan fixes it. He is tender and kind. Hmm. He isn’t quitting this time but he finally comes clean to his boss and asks him to schedule them on opposite shifts.

She also sees that he is the DD around the school. He is always somewhere and she realizes he has suffered too.

Then they both are constantly thinking about the other; really needing the other to help with their own healing but thinking that they can’t like each other that wouldn’t be right; would it?

Things have a way of revealing themselves and when they both realize that the other likes them too, they don’t know what to do.

Then when someone attempts to rape her, Logan is the one to rescue her.

Paige has a forgiving heart and Logan needed it to move on himself and Paige needed it too.

Side note, --My 14 year old nephew was killed with one punch to the neck. It ruptured the vertebral artery and he got 20 feet before collapsing dead in the street. The kid who hit him was not humble or cared. He served 2 years. But at the trial of one of the 6 kids who was there one of the kid’s mothers got up and spoke and apologized for her son’s involvement. My nephew’s mom then had her turn and said that she couldn’t live with hate in her heart and she forgave him. Wow. My brother was still angry at the time and let the kid know that my nephew’s mother may forgive but he wasn’t as forgiving. There is a difference when you let it go. That is part of why I loved this story so much. There is a huge difference when you let go and you become free from the burden and can become whole again.

This was an amazing story I am so glad I got to read it. You will like this book if you like geniuses without social skills, forgiveness, family healing, overcoming grief and anger and loss and near rape, kindness and most of all - hope

Release Event and Giveaway: Meant For Her by Raine Thomas

Meant For Her
by Raine Thomas.
Audience/Genre: Women or Children or YA or whatever/Fantasy or Urban Fantasy or Paranormal or whatever.
Publication: October 17th 2013 by Iambe Books, LLC.
Photographer Sierra Stratton views the world through a lens all her own. She has an uncanny sense about people, something that often causes her trouble. When she meets the sexy and brooding Evan Dorsey, her intuition tells her he’s suffering, and she wants to be the one to help him.

Evan isn’t open to help from anyone, however. His focus is on his Major League career and making himself as marketable as possible for his upcoming free agency. He plans to ride out the season in Atlanta and then sign with another team, away from the painful memories that haunt him.

Someone’s eager to send him on his way, too. Between anonymous threats and equipment sabotage, it’s clear he’s earned himself an enemy along the way. To him, it’s one more sign that he’s right to move on.

But Sierra threatens his conviction. Her contagious smile proves hard to resist, as does her kiss. She tempts him in ways he never anticipated, making him question his plans for the first time. If he’s not careful, she might just convince him that he’s meant for her

Enjoy an excerpt....

She saw one of the building’s employees, Oliver Werner, sitting behind the counter and crossed the lobby to greet him. He got to his feet, towering over her by more than a foot.

“Hi, Oliver.”

“Hi there, Ms. Sierra. Nice to see you.”

She winked at him. “This is Evan Dorsey. He’s checking out 4-B.”

“Is that right?” Oliver held out his hand and Evan shook it. “Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Dorsey. Can’t find a better place to live in this city, I assure you. We’ll take real good care of you here.”

“I like what I see so far,” Evan said.

Sierra wondered if it was a coincidence that his dark blue eyes shifted to her after he said that. In either case, her pulse quickened.

What harm could there be in fantasizing about a compliment from a hot ballplayer? It was healthy, really.

“Thanks, Oliver. We’ll be down in a bit.”

They headed to the elevator. She punched a code into the keypad to the right of the doors. As they closed, she looked at Evan to explain what she’d done. He was staring at her. She expected him to look away when she caught him.

He didn’t.

“When you’ve signed the lease, you’ll get your own code,” she said.

“When I sign it?”

She smiled. He might not have made up his mind about moving in just yet, but she already knew how this was going to end.

“There are four apartments each on floors two and three,” she continued as though she hadn’t heard him, “and two larger apartments on four. Only the tenants on each floor can access their floor.”

“Unless they give the code out to everyone they know.”

“Sure. We do change the codes regularly to try and prevent issues, and ask tenants to let us know if there’s any reason they need their personal codes changed. As with most secure buildings shared by multiple tenants, nothing is guaranteed.”

The elevator stopped and the doors opened up into a long hallway with hardwood floors and a vibrant carpet runner. Two large windows along the left side of the hall allowed sunlight to flood in. A few framed black and white photographs of some of the more interesting architectural elements of the complex hung along the right wall. The door to 4-B was straight ahead at the end of the hallway. Halfway there, they passed the door to 4-A on the left.

“Who lives in that apartment?” Evan asked.

She paused as she reached the door to 4-B. “Aunt Caroline didn’t tell you?”

“No.”

“Oh.”

She turned and unlocked the door to 4-B. They walked in, neither of them mentioning that she hadn’t answered his question. She started talking as she moved from room to room, figuring he was listening even if he wasn’t following her.

“As you can see, this apartment has lots of character and natural light. It’s over seventeen hundred square feet and has two large bedrooms, two full baths. Separate laundry. The kitchen has been completely updated with granite and stainless steel. Natural hardwood floors throughout. Neutral paint on the walls, but you’re welcome to change it once you move in. There are two real brick walls and exposed ductwork to enhance the loft feel. It’s a very open floorplan with—”

She turned and almost collided with Evan’s chest. Apparently, he had been following her.

“You’re in 4-A, aren’t you?” he asked.

She smiled.

“I’ll take it,” he said.

Book Blast: A Light in the Darkness by Jennifer Graves and Emily Gray Clawson

A Light in the Darkness
by Jennifer Graves and Emily Gray Clawson.
Audience/Genre: Non fiction.
Publication: 2013.
In December, 2009, Susan Cox Powell was reported missing from her home in West Valley City, Utah. As law enforcement tried to piece together what had happened to Susan, her husband, Josh Powell, became the only person of interest in the case.

For Jennifer Graves, Josh’s sister, the nightmare started long before Susan’s disappearance. From her experiences growing up in the Powell family to the terrifying moment when she first started to believe her brother was a killer, she relied on her faith to stay strong. She devoted herself to the safety of Susan’s boys, Charlie and Braden, whom she hoped to be able to raise as her own. When the boys were murdered by their father in February, 2012, Jennifer was more than devastated, but she had to believe there was a reason for it all—including the deaths of her beloved nephews.

In A Light In Dark Places, Jennifer shares her struggles and her triumphs. In coming to terms with such tragedy she finally was able to embrace the truth that we all have the power to choose our own path—and there is always hope, no matter how dark things may seem.

Praise for A Light in Dark Places

I just finished reading “A Light in Dark Places” By Jennifer Graves and Emily Gray Clawson. I was impressed with how well written the book was. The descriptions are such that I felt I was part of the story. I was grateful that the message was one of hope and peace in tragedy. The book does tell the tale of Susan Powell, her boys and their demise but doesn’t dwell on it. It was nice to see inside the life experiences of someone so close to them and to see things from Jennifer’s perspective rather than what you see on the media. I highly recommend this book. It doesn’t disappoint! – T. Hyde

I love true accounts of people overcoming challenges and helping others with the lessons learned from them. This story of Jennifer’s experiences throughout her abusive childhood, and later the disappearance of Susan and the murder of her two sweet nephews is just that. She shares how she felt God’s hand in her life, guiding her to make better choices than the rest of her family did. Though the book had so many sad details, it ended with hope, courage and love. ~D. Raymond

I had followed the story of Susan Powell very closely so I wasn’t sure if the book was going to tell me something I didn’t already know…but it sure did. Jennifer was very brave in writing this book and all she had done in support for Susan. I highly recommend the book it sheds a light on the whole situation that helps make things more clear. ~ Carolyn

This was a very informative read. I lived in Utah at the time of Susan’s disappearance and followed the news every day. This book answered many questions that the news did not. Although it was very sad and I already knew the outcome it was a good read. I admire Jennifer for her part in the whole story and I am glad she had the fortitude to write this book to honor her sister in law. ~Katie O.

To finally read about details that were never shared brought closure for me about this insidious crime. While the book was an easy read, the message shared about breaking the cycle of abusive relationships is invaluable. It truly does take someone removing themselves from their abusive family’s presence to stop the cycle. Praises to the author for sharing her perspectives. ~Arlene

Numbers are everywhere—they play such a vital role in our everyday lives. But what would happen if we measured love with equations just as we do our morning cup of coffee? My nana had many recipes in her cupboards, but it was her calculations for love that she insisted I live my life by; and I’ve followed her rules all these years.

One Animal
One Moment
One Critical Impact

That’s all it took for the numbers to start flying in a jumbled mess through my brain as I stared into the violet eyes that would forever make me question my choices. In a split second, the possibilities and reality of true love are revealed and I’m questioning all I’ve ever known.

A Tree
White Fences
Stolen Moments

I can’t ignore the storm brewing around—and within—me. Everything I am is confronted by these new numbers, and all they represent. My past, present and future will all be determined by the gambles I make right here, right now. Again, it’s all about the numbers.

And what I’m learning is, one plus one doesn’t always equal two and sometimes three times isn’t always the charm

Here is an interesting character interview....

Mystery Man

I’m the guy Brielle met by accident. I can’t tell you my name, I can’t even tell you how we met, except that if I did, I would ruin the story for you. And you don’t want that. The thing is, from the second I met Brielle, I knew that she was the one I’d been waiting for my whole life. The one that every beat of my heart existed for. Corny, cheesy, I know, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s the truth. For me to meet her when I did though, was a twist of fate that makes me wonder what I’ve done to deserve this kind of punishment. To show me where I belong only to deny me being at her side.

She’s beautiful, in a girl next door kind of way, down to earth with everything she does. But even without that, I would still love her. I love her knowing that I can never be with her, not unless something drastic changes. Yet I’m not sure that anything ever will change, not without destroying the lives of too many people. So I will take what I can, a simple friendship that will barely be enough. Because every time I see her, my will power crumbles a little more, and I’m afraid that at some point, I won’t be able to say no to her.

To us.
