Cover Reveal: Forty Nights (Neima's Ark #2) by Stephanie Parent

Forty Nights (Neima's Ark #2)
by Stephanie Parent.
Audience/Genre: Young Adult, Romance.
Publication: September 2013
Neima, her family, and her grandfather Noah have found themselves trapped aboard an ark as a great flood destroys all life in the world. As their time aboard the ark lengthens, food begins to run out, wild animals grow restless, and family tensions become as much of a threat as the flood outside. In the second and final installment of Neima’s Ark, the stakes are higher, the conflicts are greater, and Neima finds herself facing a choice as impossible as the destruction all around her.

Forty Nights is a continuation of the story begun in Forty Days, and it’s recommended that you read Forty Days first for the best experience. Forty Nights does, however, contain a character guide to refresh readers’ memories. The Neima’s Ark series is a historical, feminist reimagining of the story of Noah’s Ark rather than a religiously oriented one, and the novels are best suited for readers who are comfortable with new interpretations of biblical stories.

Forty Days is currently free on B&N

Forty Days is also currently free on smashwords too

Cover Reveal: Love at First Slight by J. Marie Croft

Love at First Slight
by J. Marie Croft.
Audience/Genre: Fiction | Romance | Historical | Regency | Jane Austen Sequel.
Publication: October 1st 2013 by Rhemalda Publishing.
“It may not be universally acknowledged, but the unvarnished truth is that a young widow in possession of a good fortune is not necessarily in want of another husband.”

In this humorous, topsy-turvy Pride & Prejudice variation, all the gender roles are reversed. It is Mr. Bennet’s greatest wish to see his five sons advantageously married. When the haughty Miss Elizabeth Darcy comes to Netherfield with the Widow Devonport nee Bingley, speculation—and prejudice—runs rampant.

William Bennet, a reluctant and irreverent future reverend, catches Miss Darcy’s eye even though he is beneath her station. However, his opinion of her was fixed when she slighted him at the Meryton Assembly. As her ardour grows, so does his disdain, and when she fully expects to receive an offer of marriage, he gives her something else entirely ….

J. Marie Croft, a Nova Scotia resident and avid reader all her life, discovered Jane Austen's works later than others but made up for lost time by devouring the six novels and as many adaptations and sequels as she could find. In the midst of reading prodigious amounts of Austen-based fan-fiction, she realized, "Hey, I can do that." In her spare time, when not working at a music school or on a wooded trail enjoying her geocaching hobby, she listens to the voices in her head and captures their thoughts and words in writing. Her stories are light-hearted; and her motto is Miss Austen's own quote, "Let other pens dwell on guilt and misery." J. Marie Croft is a member of the Jane Austen Society of North America (Canada)
and admits to being "excessively attentive" to the 1995 BBC version of Pride and Prejudice. She can be contacted at jmariecroft@gmail.com.

Finding It (Losing It #3) by Cora Carmack

Finding It (Losing It #3)
by Cora Carmack.
Audience/Genre:Contemporary Romance.
Source: Edelweiss
Publication: October 1st 2013 by William Morrow Paperbacks
Most girls would kill to spend months traveling around Europe after college graduation with no responsibility, no parents, and no-limit credit cards. Kelsey Summers is no exception. She's having the time of her life...or that's what she keeps telling herself.

It's a lonely business trying to find out who you are, especially when you're afraid you won't like what you discover. No amount of drinking or dancing can chase away Kelsey's loneliness, but maybe Jackson Hunt can. After a few chance meetings, he convinces her to take a journey of adventure instead of alcohol. With each new city and experience, Kelsey's mind becomes a little clearer and her heart a little less hers. Jackson helps her unravel her own dreams and desires. But the more she learns about herself, the more Kelsey realizes how little she knows about Jackson.

Reviewed by Kelly.

Cora’s writing got me again. I, at first, cringed at Kelsey. I did not like her. I couldn’t relate to her. But it didn’t matter, because by the end I fell in love with her and Jackson Hunt.

I definitely did not like Kelsey. She was skanky, rude and definitely witchy with a B! I couldn’t see why Hunt continued to follow her. He was sweet and wasn’t doing all that she was. So, I just didn’t get it. What did he see in her? But I got it later on.

Hunt is from military background. We don’t know much about him at all, through most of the book except that he maintains his distance from her and yet follows her. I feel like an idiot because I didn’t figure it out. I didn’t see what his secrets were until they were revealed later on at almost the end of the book. We know he was chivalrous, we see that he doesn’t seem to drink alcohol. But Kelsey was so rude to him in the beginning. I was so frustrated!

Kelsey has secrets of her own. Most don’t come out until later in the book. But she didn’t have a good life at all at home growing up. Her parents ignored her needs. They were awful parents. They had money but no time or love for her. She needed something from them that they didn’t think was a big deal.

Put these two together and it is frustrating to figure them out. They went on adventures all over Europe. This was their deal to go on an adventure for one week for a kiss. She wanted more but he wasn’t having that.

They had some wonderful experiences and adventures that I would have died for. Well except that they went bungee jumping above a river and no way would I experience that! Never in a million years! But they did and it was a pivotal point in their awkward relationship.

They were both broken and neither wanted to tell their secrets until the end. And WHOA! – I did not see that at all. I didn’t guess what was coming about Jackson Hunt until Kelsey learned it too.

But Kelsey had her secrets and demons she couldn’t tame but together they seemed to be doing better and both seemed happy and trying to work through their unshared demons until, well until Kelsey couldn’t do it anymore and ran. That was Kelsey though, she always seems to run.

I know that I haven’t really said much more than the synopsis already given, but if you like Europe Adventures, kissing in the rain, swimming and losing your bathing suit top, a military man, bungee jumping (well I still liked it even though I will never do it), long train rides, boat rides with turquoise water that glows, and finding yourself with someone else than you will like it.

I loved where the book came to an end and it was stunning! It was peaceful and it “counted”!

I also love the cover at the Book Depository. The guy is hmm......

I loved the little things said by them. Here is one...

“The best parts of life are the things we can’t plan. And it’s a lot harder to find happiness if you’re only searching in one place. Sometimes, you just have to throw away the map. Admit that you don’t know where you’re going and stop pressuring yourself to figure it out. Besides.... a map is a life someone else already lived. It’s more fun to make your own.”

Midnight Masquerade by Marcia McClure (Spotlight, Review and Giveaway)

Midnight Masquerade by Marcia McClure.
Audience/Genre: Romance.
Publication: July 29th 2013 (first published 2012).
Stavos Voronin was not as blind-eyed as many nobles and royals. Evony’s physical gestures—even the simplest movement of her hands—revealed that she had not always been destitute. The same was true of the children—of their polished manners and the boy’s knowledge of horses and tendency to be bold and fearless of strangers.

Ah yes, Stavos enjoyed a good mystery. After all, interest in the inexplicable circumstances surrounding the royals of Abawyth was the very thing that had lured him to the kingdom—the enigma of Abawyth’s twelve sleepy princesses. And yet now—now his mind was all the more intrigued. Not only was the obscurity of what had caused the profound and baffling torpidity of Abawyth’s princesses laid out before him, but also he found his curiosity intensely piqued over the riddle surrounding the very lovely Evony and her siblings.

As Stavos strode through the village resting on the outskirts of Abawyth Castle, his mind reeled with possibilities. His musings were drawn back to why he had come to Abawyth at all—to solve the conundrum surrounding the twelve beautiful princesses of Abawyth kingdom—to solve the seemingly impenetrable crux and thereby win the hand of one of Abawyth’s princesses, as his father, King Letholdus of Ethiarien, had commanded.

Here is an excerpt from the book....

She was tired—oh so very, very tired. Never—not in all her life—had Evony Elorietta known such thoroughgoing fatigue. As she trudged out of the dark woods still veiled in the shadows of early sunrise, out across the expanse of cold, dew-drenched grass and onto the main road of the village, Evony wondered how she would ever endure a day that was only just beginning. Every bone in her body ached—every muscle throbbed in misery, every inch of her flesh begged for respite. Yet there would be none—at least not until she had finished her stitching—finished the near thirteen hours of sewing she now faced under the ever observant, incessantly critical eye of seamstress Agnes Teche.

After such a long, chilled, and sleepless night spent in watching—peering through the darkness and into the rooms of the inn in the woods, until her eyes were too dry to watch any longer—after listening to the shallow, often vile conversations, until her ears hurt from the foul ferment of it—Evony dreaded sewing for Mrs. Teche more than ever before. The woman was a banshee of an employer. And yet, she was grateful Mrs. Teche had had the keen eye to recognize Evony’s superior skills with needle and thread—for how else would Evony have managed to feed Mikol and Tressa—to shelter them—to keep them hidden?

Reviewed by Kelly.

First off- I love love love Marcia McClure books! I buy her books before I even read the synopsis. I can guarantee that I will love it. “It’s all about the kissing” is her motto. They always take me to another place and time and I can really escape reality. Her books are clean and fun. I love that she puts real personal touches in her books at the end. At the end she tells another story of how the book came to be and “snippets” of information contained in the book. In this book she talks about her social phobia and her children she teaches at church and how they helped her and this is where some of the names in the book came from. I love that. It is a whole other world of writing and understanding not only the background of the book but Marcia McClure. She is real there and tells it like it is. It always puts a smile on my face.

This is a retelling of the twelve dancing princesses. Stavos’s horse nearly tramples on Evony in the beginning of the book. Stavos is a prince and he is more humble than, I don’t know what, but he is humble! He sees Evony for not only her beauty but her character. He isn’t easily fooled and is quick to figure things out. See in the beginning, we have to figure out Evony as well as the rest of the story.

Stavos becomes entwined in Evony’s life because he is there to solve the mystery over the 12 princesses being lethargic. If anyone could solve the mystery, they would be rewarded with the hand of one of the 12 princesses to wed. Stavos’s father sent him there to solve it and choose one of them for his bride and Stavos is obedient. Evony has information that would help him on his quest. He trusts her and she in turn, trusts him. But she holds back at first for fear of her family. When things are discovered that Evony didn't originally tell him, Evony reveals all to him and together they solve the mystery.

Along the way, kisses are stolen and given and hearts are also given. Also a little bit of jealousy. But, there is the matter that in the end Stavos must choose one of the princesses to wed. Evony is heartbroken.

But you know that all her books have HEAs. And so my heart was beating madly, truly it was, at the end trying to see what would he do so he could be with Evony? Because, I wasn't 100% sure that was going to happen.

There are a lot of things to solve and learn throughout the book and I don’t want to give it all away. Evony’s family is strong in character and helps one another. I love that there is a strong family theme here. Because families are the most important thing in life.

4.5 stars for me. I think I am partial to her cowboy stories.

If you like kissing, families, a little mystery, story retellings, chivalry, royalty, clean romance, honor, duty, and a little killing of the bad guys then this is the book for you!

Faking It by Cora Carmack

Finding It by Cora Carmack.
Audience/Genre: New Adult, Contemporary Romance.
Publication: June 4th 2013 by William Morrow & Company.
Mackenzie “Max” Miller has a problem. Her parents have arrived in town for a surprise visit, and if they see her dyed hair, tattoos, and piercings, they just might disown her. Even worse, they’re expecting to meet a nice, wholesome boyfriend, not a guy named Mace who has a neck tattoo and plays in a band. All her lies are about to come crashing down around her, but then she meets Cade.

Cade moved to Philadelphia to act and to leave his problems behind in Texas. So far though, he’s kept the problems and had very little opportunity to take the stage. When Max approaches him in a coffee shop with a crazy request to pretend to be her boyfriend, he agrees to play the part. But when Cade plays the role a little too well, they’re forced to keep the ruse going. And the more they fake the relationship, the more real it begins to feel.

Reviewed by Kelly.

Can I just say that I LOVE Cora Carmack's writing! She is auto buy author for me. She had me at the first page. I had a smile on my face from the beginning. Her writing flows and is so easy to follow. I was laughing and crying! There is so much sexual tension in the book and you find yourself saying “Just Do it ... no don’t do it” over and over because you can so easily understand Max and Cade. It is so easy to fall in love with them and want everything to go right.

I have been waiting for this signed book from her for awhile, so I couldn’t read it until now. I have been so frustrated waiting. I sat down with it and the next thing I knew it was after midnight and I was ¾ of the way done. I then found myself reading the paragraphs over and over because I was tired. Which is very odd for me since I work night shift and am used to staying up all night. But I think that I was so wrapped up in the whole book that I was emotionally exhausted. I know that sounds stupid since it is just a book but it’s true. So I put it down and picked it up as soon as I woke up.

This story is about Cade and Max. Max calls Cade - “Golden Boy” and Cade calls Max “Angry Girl”. They are as opposite as you can be on the outside but very similar on the inside. Max is covered in tattoos and has piercings and Cade is kind and chivalrous and helps everyone. But that is only on the outside. They are both full of some sad pasts and each has dealt with it differently. Their families are a part of them for good or bad. I love when the families are in stories. Max’s family struggles to move on from the loss of Max’s sister some time ago. Max struggles to find peace with it and her family. Max’s family loves her in the only way they know. Max has to learn to be who she is around them too.

Cade is quiet and doesn’t fight or go after people. He just “lets them go”. But he sure learns to fight physically and emotionally. I love that about him. We can change if we want. He is totally swoon worthy. He is always looking out for Max and helping her even when it hurt his own heart to do so.

I wish everyone could have Milo as a friend. Cade’s friend doesn’t hold back anything and just tells Cade like it is. I want a Milo!

What I also loved about the book is that it doesn’t start in a bar. I am getting tired of that. Don’t people meet other places too? So I was happy that it started out in a coffee shop. The first few chapters had me grinning from ear to ear at the interactions in the coffee shop. I know I keep saying that but I was always grinning.

I know I didn’t say a whole lot of what was in the book. But I don’t need to. You will enjoy it .If you love contemporary romance with some sadness, tattoos, singing, acting, crazy families, getting over old girlfriends, getting past looser boyfriends, chivalry, then this is for you This book covers being who you are, learning to fight for what you want and loving your family with all their faults. I want to see this one as a movie.

I can’t wait for Finding It!

Reviewed by Kelly.

My first impressions while reading this book- I thought it was like a soap opera. Nothing is as you think. That’s all I am saying on that.

My favorite parts- Lance! He is the side kick. I love his antics and humor. I so could see him in action. He is a werewolf and I couldn’t get enough of him.

About evil- Absinthe, the daughter of the King of the Dark Order (Vampires) is pure evil. The description of her in the book had me seeing her with a seductive way with her fingernails on anyone’s skin she despised as she toyed with them. It gave me the chills. She gets around and around and around. She’s a ho! She has people as pets that do her bidding.

There were others you thought you trusted, but oh my gosh, as it turns out, you can’t trust anyone.

The story- Sorry, I just had to get the other stuff off my chest first. This story has romance, lots of action, twists and turns you don’t see coming, and tender moments that you wouldn’t have guessed would happen. And once again, it leaves lots of unresolved stuff that we would just have to wait to get the next book to read. I hope there is a story about Lance (giggle)!

This story is mainly about Jared and Alex. Both supposedly human, but some things don’t add up about them. Hmmm... Anyway, Alex is a reporter and meets Jared at a gala at the Museum of Natural History for a story she is forced to do. She meets him by fainting in his arms. SO embarrassing! Anyway, he takes her in a room partitioned off, so she could recover and in that room is a huge dragon. She knows it is real and not some model but she won’t admit to it. Then, she just keeps getting deeper and deeper into the supernatural world. They both find a connection to each other but don’t understand it. Let the romance begin. Things of course, don’t go as smoothly as it should be considering she is talking about a supernatural world all around her, that’s a lot for anyone to take in.

But Abs has other plans. She wants everything and is evil incarnate. She will stop at nothing to get the throne and whatever play thing she wants as well as kill whomever she wants too. The plot gets thicker and thicker with the passing of the pages.

What I didn't like- I wish we could see the romance develop a little more slowly. It felt a little rushed for me.

I didn’t really understand the secret society. I wish I could have learned more about that.

And I didn’t like Abs. But I am not supposed to like her! Maybe you like evil witches with a B, not me.

Questions – Does Alex write a story and expose the supernatural world? What will Abs do next? There is another turn at the very end that I didn’t see coming and I am dying to know more about it!

Final thoughts- I feel like I can’t say much about what happens because there are so many twists and turns. I like that in a book, especially when you don’t see it coming. If you like humor, twists and turns, vamps, werewolves and dragons, bickering families, romance and a little bit or sorrow you will like this book.

4.5 stars for me!

Waiting on Wednesday: Written in My Own Heart's Blood by Diana Gabaldon

Written in My Own Heart's Blood (Outlander #8)
by Diana Gabaldon.
Audience/Genre: Historical Romance, Time Travel.
Expected publication: March 25th 2014 by Delacorte Press
WRITTEN IN MY OWN HEART’S BLOOD is the eighth novel in the world-famous OUTLANDER series. In June of 1778, the world turns upside-down. The British army withdraws from Philadelphia, George Washington prepares to move from Valley Forge in pursuit, and Jamie Fraser comes back from the dead to discover that his best friend has married Jamie’s wife. The ninth Earl of Ellesmere discovers to his horror that he is in fact the illegitimate son of the newly-resurrected Jamie Fraser (a rebel _and_ a Scottish criminal!) and Jamie’s nephew Ian Murray discovers that his new-found cousin has an eye for Ian’s Quaker betrothed.

Meanwhile, Claire Fraser deals with an asthmatic duke, Benedict Arnold, and the fear that one of her husbands may have murdered the other. And in the 20th century, Jamie and Claire’s daughter Brianna is thinking that things are probably easier in the 18th century: her son has been kidnapped, her husband has disappeared into the past, and she’s facing a vicious criminal with nothing but a stapler in her hand. Fortunately, her daughter has a miniature cricket bat and her mother’s pragmatism.

The best of historical fiction with a Moebius twist, WRITTEN IN MY OWN HEART’S BLOOD weaves the fibers of a family’s life through the tapestry of historical drama

I love this series. I started it because of the medicine they used at this time and I love all things Scottish. But Jamie and Claire sucked me in. The first book is being made into a musical. But, it is also in the process of becoming a tv show on Starz. Below is a snippet from the musical. I love it!!

The Defiance (Brilliant Darkness #2) by A.G. Henley

The Defiance (Brilliant Darkness #2)
by A.G.Henley.
Audience/Genre: Young Adult,Dystopia.
Publication: July 29th 2013
It hasn't been long since Fennel, a Sightless Groundling, and Peree, her Lofty Keeper, fell in love and learned the truth: the Scourge, and their world, are not what they seem.

Fenn and Peree are determined to guide their people to the protected village of Koolkuna, but first they must convince them that everything they believe is a lie. An impossible task, especially when someone seems hell-bent on trying anything--even animal sacrifice and arson--to destroy the couple's new bond and crush the frail truce between the Groundlings and the Lofties. Not everyone wants to uproot their lives in the forest, and those who stay behind will be left terribly vulnerable.

Fenn and Peree's resolve to be together, and the constant threat of the Scourge's return, push both groups to the breaking point. Unable to tell friend from foe, Fenn must again decide how much she's willing to sacrifice to ensure the future of the people of the forest.

Only this time, the price of peace may be too high to bear

Reviewed by Kelly.

Talk about all over the place emotions here! One minute you are happy and the next it is so sad and hopeless. I felt a wide range of anger, hate, sorrow, despair and hope, love and then bam it ends with another emotion. I was finally relaxing after the long journey it took to get to the end of the book that I didn’t see it coming. Yes, there is a cliffhanger.

If you haven’t read the first book, you would want to read it first. There is so much you wouldn’t understand if you jumped into the second one.

I was grateful that at times the author put things in the beginning to remind me of some of the things that happened in the first book.

Also, I don't really think of the Scourge or the ill ones as Zombies. Ms. Henley described them in such a way that I didn't feel that way at all.

Fenn and Peree return from Koolkuna to get her brother and anyone else who would come with them to find peace and understand about the Scourge. That they really aren’t the Scourge but ill ones, they can talk to you if you aren’t drinking the water near their home.

But there is a long history and much mistrust in the two factions of people, the Lofties and the Groundlings. It’s kind of like Romeo and Juliette, a forbidden love. And everyone constantly tries to separate the two. But Fenn and Peree love each other and they will do what they need to be together.

Well, except that Fenn is a little stubborn in trying to get people to listen and not leave when she is almost killed and threatened multiple times.

I love how Peree is always there for Fenn and doesn’t care that she is blind. He doesn’t care about their differences and loves her so unconditionally. Fenn loves him too and also loves her brother fiercely and almost looses everything in getting people to leave.

Bear still carries a torch for Fenn but is there for her, however he can. Moray, well he is still a jerk but there is a motive to his madness here.

I don’t think I can tell you too much without ruining the end. But I will tell you that Moon has her baby outside of a good shelter. That was so sweet.

I just hate cliffhangers! Grr....

Meanwhile, I will share some excerpts from some of the sad parts that put some perspective on loss.

"It's a gift that you're still alive, Bear. A gift your family wasn't given. Don't squander it."

"Don't run away from the pain, Fenn. Feel it, respect it, and move on,like Aloe told me to do. Burying it only makes you sick inside. Trust me"

"And that's when it hits me. My broken heart is irrelevant. How **** or Aloe would feel doesn't matter much, either. It's far too late to worry about that. But I can make Peree happy. I can do that. Isn't that what love really is, after all? Setting aside your own problems to be there for the other person when they need you? It's what Peree's always done for me."

Book Blast and Giveaway: Midnight Masquerade by Marcia McClure

Marcia Lynn McClure’s intoxicating succession of novels, novellas, and e-books, has established her as one of the most favored and engaging authors of true romance. Her unprecedented forte in weaving captivating stories of western, medieval, regency, and contemporary amour void of brusque intimacy has earned her the title “The Queen of Kissing.”

Waiting on Wednesday: The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks

The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks.
Audience/Genre: Romance.
Publication: September 24th 2013 by Grand Central Publishing .
Ira Levinson is in trouble. At ninety-one years old, in poor health and alone in the world, he finds himself stranded on an isolated embankment after a car crash. Suffering multiple injuries, he struggles to retain consciousness until a blurry image materializes and comes into focus beside him: his beloved wife Ruth, who passed away nine years ago. Urging him to hang on, she forces him to remain alert by recounting the stories of their lifetime together – how they met, the precious paintings they collected together, the dark days of WWII and its effect on them and their families. Ira knows that Ruth can’t possibly be in the car with him, but he clings to her words and his memories, reliving the sorrows and everyday joys that defined their marriage.

A few miles away, at a local rodeo, a Wake Forest College senior’s life is about to change. Recovering from a recent break-up, Sophia Danko meets a young cowboy named Luke, who bears little resemblance to the privileged frat boys she has encountered at school. Through Luke, Sophia is introduced to a world in which the stakes of survival and success, ruin and reward -- even life and death – loom large in everyday life. As she and Luke fall in love, Sophia finds herself imagining a future far removed from her plans -- a future that Luke has the power to rewrite . . . if the secret he’s keeping doesn’t destroy it first.

Ira and Ruth. Sophia and Luke. Two couples who have little in common, and who are separated by years and experience. Yet their lives will converge with unexpected poignancy, reminding us all that even the most difficult decisions can yield extraordinary journeys: beyond despair, beyond death, to the farthest reaches of the human heart.

I can't wait for this. I am going to a local signing on September 20th. Squeee!!

Blog Tour: In Shadows of Magic by Alison F Prince

The Bea-YOU-tiful Tour is LIVE!

In Shadows of Magic by Alison F. Prince.
Audience/Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal.
Publication: July 11, 2013 by Astraea Press.
Mandy McKinney lives the charmed life. She is beautiful, athletic, popular, dating the hottest jock in school, and certainly doesn't have any time for her loser twin sister. But Mandy also has a secret. When the truth is unveiled, her world is twisted upside down, and her very life is at stake.

Mandy's twin sister, Brianna, has never had any success in the dating department. When Brianna finally meets the guy of her dreams, it turns out that he has secrets of his own. Dangerous secrets. Just her luck.

The twins are about to be swept away into a world of beauty and power beyond their wildest imaginations where nothing is what is seems, danger is lurking in the shadows, and their only chance of survival is finding themselves, and each other, once again

Reviewed by Kelly.

This was a story of self worth and self esteem and team work, family and love. I loved the message of it all.

We start with twins. They are living totally separate lives with separate friends and clicks. Brianna dyed her hair black. She is part of a band. She plays guitar. Her main friends are from the band. She feels shunned from her twin, Mandy. Mandy is the popular girl. She has her popular friends and jock boyfriend. Mandy doesn’t have time for anyone not as popular as her. She is always perfect; perfect looking, dressed, athletic and popular. The twins couldn’t be any more different. Except they are very much alike. They both hate each other, or so they think. They are jealous of each other’s life. They think the other has it better and feel little self worth. Like neither of them is really good enough.

Normally, I don't like insta love, but somehow with both girls, it seemed to work and it didn't bother me.

The thing is that they are witches. Mandy has a lot of power. Brianna has very little and has difficulty getting it to come out. So she gives up. Mandy abuses her powers. They aren’t supposed to expose themselves to the world.

Valerie is in Mandy’s click. Valerie is verbally abused by her mother and wants nothing more than to kill Mandy. Literally! She figures out that Mandy has some sort of power especially after she tries to push her off the mountain and Mandy flies back up. They agree to leave each other alone or Mandy will do something to Valerie. But Valerie has an evil heart and desires her power. She makes a plan and is able to get Brianna to steal Mandy’s power. Brianna believes what Valerie feeds her that Mandy is selfish and Brianna deserves some of it. Brianna goes back and forth on what she is about to do and then what she did by taking her sisters powers.

Mandy is happy without them. She likes being normal and learns to like people who like her for her. Brianna learns that it is not so easy having powers. Both sisters learn from their mistakes but at a high price.

I love that the girls figure out that magic doesn't necessarily make life any better. You don't know if people like you because of magic or for who you are. I wouldn't like that at all. I used to think having magic would be cool growing up. But after reading this book, the only thing I would want if for is to clean the house! I am going to have my teenager read this book.

Valerie gets some of Brianna’s powers and goes crazy with it. Then add in some boyfriends who really care for the twins and an evil ex with major powers who wants Brianna’s boyfriend and Brianna dead. Well, that equals major disaster. With some new friends, the twins have to learn to work together to fight evil. But what will it cost them? What is worth fighting for?

That’s what I love about this book; learning one’s self worth. The end is a cliffhanger. I look forward to watch the twins continue to learn and grow and fight!

This is a clean read. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who needs a little boost of self esteem and self worth. Ahh, that would be all of us, wouldn't it?!?

Fake Fiance, Real Revenge by Roxanne Snopek

Fake Fiance, Real Revenge (Three River Ranch #3)
by Roxanne Snopek .
Audience/Genre: Contemporary Romance.
Publication: August 12th 2013 by Entangled: Bliss.
This cowboy doesn't know what he's in for...

Real-estate tycoon Mitchell Granger has a problem. In order to secure a lucrative deal with an eccentric client, he told the teeny white lie that he was engaged…and now he needs to prove it. Even worse? The only name that came to mind was Sabrina Becker, the girl he was never good enough for growing up, and who still lives near his family ranch.

Sabrina doesn’t mind posing as Mitch’s fake fiancĂ©e—no, she doesn’t mind at all. One, she’ll make him pay with new construction for her business. And two, Sabrina’s got a plan to exact revenge on her first love, the boy who left her and Three River Ranch behind. She’ll pretend so well, he’ll fall in love with her…and then he’ll get a taste of what true heartbreak feels like.

But as Mitch sheds his corporate skin and picks up his dusty jeans and cowboy hat, will both his and Sabrina’s grand plans get derailed by love?

Reviewed by Kelly.

This is from the Bliss line of Entangled. It is my favorite. It may be more predictable but it is so sweet.

I jumped into this book without having read the first two. It was a little slow going at first. Where it works well as a standalone, I wish I had read the other two books first. I am definitely going back and reading the others.

Once I got about 1/3rd into the book, I couldn’t put it down. I knew where it was going but I was still drawn to the characters and their reactions.

I loved Mitch in this book. You know he is a good guy but there are times you aren’t so sure. I wanted to smack him upside the head sometimes. He finally gets it later on but it’s all in the delivery that I admired in him. He is really sweet, selfless and has done well for himself, but he never saw that himself. He has been looking for approval from everyone and he doesn’t see that he has always had it.

Sabrina is awesome. I am a labor and delivery nurse, so I really connected with her. She is a midwife. She is extremely kind, sweet and has a loving heart. She wears that heart on her sleeve.

Mitch starts out the book at a party with the rich. Whereas he is rich too, he doesn’t think that way and he feels uncomfortable there. He is trying to land a deal with Della so that his company will soar to greater heights. Della wants Mitch to date her stepdaughter. Mitch says the first thing on his mind to avoid that. He says he is engaged and Della is nosey and wants to know who. He says Sabrina without thinking. Della then wants to go to his hometown where there are acres and acres of land and a cowboy experience.

Mitch realizes he is in trouble. He calls Sabrina and begs a favor to pretend they are in love and are engaged. Sabrina agrees, but she has an agenda. Mitch just keeps getting further into lies because they have to convince the whole town and his family that all of a sudden after years and not seeing him, that Sabrina and Mitch are getting married. Mitch hadn’t thought it through enough to realize he could be hurting Sabrina and his family with his lies. He didn’t think of the ring she should have on.

He didn’t think of how Sabrina would feel when he left again. They shared a past. That past was with a pregnancy that ended up as a loss. They never told anyone about it, not even their families. They were high school sweethearts but kept it undercover. Sabrina was hurt by him leaving her alone. She plans revenge to make him fall in love with her so she could dump him. But they both have hearts that still beat for each other and that is something neither one really thought about.

As the lies get deeper and the feelings of faking it become crossed with real ones, they have to decide what will the sacrifice. Then, Della makes a surprise move that will destroy everyone’s faith in Mitch and destroy a struggling family.

Can Mitch fix all this and will Sabrina finish her revenge before it is too late? And what will happen to the family that is affected by Della’s decision?

This is a sweet read with lots of loving family members and friends. I love small town stories and cowboys.

I loved the description when they were riding horses. I felt like I was riding too.

Families are there for you even when you aren’t around for years. They still love you. That’s what is most important.

Interview with Eirik

Kelly walks the short distance to the football field. She searches the clumps of students and
sees his signature Chex Mix curls next to Raine’s dark-brown hair. Football players are
stretching in the field and the cheerleaders are doing their drills on the side. Even though
Eirik and Raine are talking and laughing, Raine’s eyes are on the players while his are on
the cheerleaders. Occasionally, he lifts his camera and clicks. I study the cheerleaders and
Kelly *stops just below them to catch her breath*: Hi, guys.
Eirik (grins): Hey. *looks at Raine* You were just leaving.
Cora: No, I wasn’t. Hi, Kelly. Do you want to interview me too?
Eirik: No, she doesn’t. Seriously, go away.
Raine *smacks the back of his head*: Polite much? Planning to talk about me behind my
Eirik *makes a face*: Self-absorbed much?
Raine *wrinkles her nose*: See you tonight.
Kelly: I don’t mind interviewing the two of you.
Raine *chuckles*: No, it’s okay. I’m just messing with him. I have lessons anyway. *glances at
Eirik* Dinner. My place. Be there or else.
Eirik *fakes a shudder then waves when she reaches the bottom of the bleachers and
glances at us*: She is such a worrywart.
Kelly: Why is she worried? Are you okay?
Eirik *shrugs*: I’m fine. She tends to see things that are not there. Okay. Let’s start. What do
you want to know?
Kelly: When did Cora join the cheerleaders?
Eirik: She didn’t. She’s interviewing them about someone who died recently. Her blog entries
have gotten darker. I don’t know why. We are not here to talk about her, are we?
Kelly: She’s a big part of your life, so yes, I would like to talk about her too.
Eirik *sighs*: There’s nothing to talk about. She’s pretending I don’t exist right now.
Kelly *frowns*: Why?
Eirik: I don’t know. I don’t understand women.
Kelly: Maybe she doesn’t like your friendship with Raine.
Eirik *chuckles*: That’s ridiculous. Raine is with Torin.
Kelly: SO you don’t have feelings for Raine?
Eirik: I’ll always love her. She’s my best friend and was my first crush.
Kelly: Maybe Cora wants to be your best friend and your crush. Every girl wants to be best
friends with their boyfriend.
Eirik *shrugs*: Any woman who wants to be with me must accept Raine or no deal.
Kelly: So have you kissed her? Cora?
Eirik *stares at the Cora, eyes narrowed*: nope
Kelly: Do you want to?
Eirik: What do you think?
Kelly: Use 3 words to describe Cora
Eirik *grins*: Gorgeous, stubborn, infuriating,
Kelly: What do you think about Torin?
Eirik: As long as he treats Raine right, I’m cool with him.
Eirik *shrugs*: Don’t know him well enough to form an opinion.
Eirik *eyes narrows*: Don’t like them. Norns included.
Kelly: But your parents—
Eirik: Not open for discussion. I should go. I’m done taking pictures. I can walk you to your car.
Kelly *stands*: Just a few more questions. What is your favorite music, actor, color, thing to
Eirik *makes a face*: Rock, Benedict Cumberbatch, blue, photography. *lifts the camera and
takes a picture of her.* Now I have one of you.
Kelly *smiles*: I guess that covers it. Maybe I can catch up with Raine.
Eirik *laughs*: Good luck. She’s using portals now.

Holy Hel! Where to begin! So much happens; so much to keep up with and one twist after another. I thought I had it figured out but I did NOT have it right at all! The characters kept me interested and non stop action. This is not just a love story but it covers everything guys want in a book too; action, sports, death, mystery, suspense and mythology. For the girls, there is a love story, family, loss and friendship. You want it - you got it all right here folks!

We start off a couple weeks after the end of the last book. Torrin doesn't remember Raine. But we all know that he has to get them back somehow. Otherwise, we would be angry readers. Torrin does slowly remember things. Just not the memories that made them special. He remembers her nickname first. He is also a jerk and Raine decides she should just cut her losses and move on. But she can't and Torrin is miserable but he doesn't know why.

Raine's dad is back and he starts running again. Raine worries about him because he looks sickly but she runs with him. She loves that he is back and is cooking again too.

Raine seems to be the social outcast at school. Everyone saw what happened at the swim meet and think she is a witch. Someone is writing stuff on her locker about her being a witch. Raine only has Cora and Eirick as friends.. Andris has his memories and seems to be trying to get Torrin and her back together. Go figure!

Raine's mom has her memories intact but Raine isn't always forthcoming in everything that is going on. Speaking of not saying things- if Raine knew who to trust maybe a lot of stuff could have been prevented. But aren't we all like that in real life? Not saying things because we don't want to hurt someone or betray someone or don't know who to trust?

The Norns aren’t done with Raine either and they are manipulating things at every turn. Who to trust? Sometimes she learns things from them that no one else tells her. Hmmm...

Then there is Lavinia, Raine’s trainer, who is teaching her all things Immortal. She is pretty and polite and sometimes wonders if she isn’t someone doing harm around town too.

Eirick.... poor guy. He just has no luck. Something about his family is what is keeping everyone keeping secrets. But something is wrong with him and things are getting worse. What you ask? I am not telling.

Lastly, Cora. Cora and Raine are friends but sometimes things are strained. Raine just doesn’t know what to do but she keeps trying to put Cora and Eirick together.

Put that all together with some football scenes, kissing, waterfalls, extra homework, more kissing, running, motorcycle riding, Evil norns, portals everywhere, more kissing, lost friendships, new characters, family bonding time and you got a great story. But let me tell you, the end will blow you away!
