Olivia

He tilts my chin up so my eyes meet his, his thumb brushing lightly across my lips. I close my eyes. I know Z is trouble. I know that being with him is going to get me into trouble. I don’t care.

At least at this moment, I don’t care.

Tossed from foster home to foster home, Olivia’s seen a lot in her sixteen years. She’s hardened, sure, though mostly just wants to fly under the radar until graduation. But her natural ability with computers catches the eye of Z, a mysterious guy at her new school. Soon, Z has brought Liv into his team of hacker elite—break into a few bank accounts, and voila, he drives a motorcycle. Follow his lead, and Olivia might even be able to escape from her oppressive foster parents. As Olivia and Z grow closer, though, so does the watchful eye of Bill Sykes, Z’s boss. And he’s got bigger plans for Liv…

Z

I can picture Liv’s face: wide-eyed, trusting. Her smooth lips that taste like strawberry Fanta.

It was just a kiss. That’s all. She’s just like any other girl.

Except that she’s not.

Thanks to Z, Olivia’s about to get twisted

OLIVIA TWISTED was written to the most eclectic mix of music I’ve ever enjoyed.

It’s hard for me to write without listening to something—and most of the time, it has to be songs that inspire certain scenes. From Korn to Josh Groban to Evanescence, there was the right song for every scene.

Obviously, my playlist would be too long to include everything, so I’ll give a sampling here (with links to videos on YouTube):

Songs for Olivia:

Olivia is innocent but strong in the story. Though she makes some wrong choices, she stands by her decisions in the end. The songs I chose for her were hauntingly beautiful and sometimes sad.

LOST IN PARADISE by Evanescence
TENUOUS by Sleepthief
STAY by Rihanna

Songs for Z (my version of the Artful Dodger):

Z is a bad boy, no doubt about it (kind of fitting, since he’s a criminal). The songs I felt properly represented him were a little more hardcore, including Nine Inch Nails, Korn, and Avenged Sevenfold. Of course, when it came to his growing attachment to Olivia and his internal struggles, the songs softened a bit. It depended on where I was at in the story as to what song represented Z.

CRAWLING by Linkin Park
SICK by Adelitas Way
I STAND ALONE by Godsmack
LETTERS FROM THE SKY by Civil Twilight (the guy does have his sensitive side)

Songs for the romance between Olivia and Z:

Ahh…the romance. I chose heartbreakingly beautiful songs to write the romantic scenes. The emotions that the two characters experienced weren’t all hearts and flowers, considering the turmoil in their lives and the dark secrets they eventually had to share with each other.

ASLEEP by Emily Browning

TROUBLE by Coldplay
OVER AND OVER by Three Days Grace
NOW OR NEVER by Josh Groban (I said it was eclectic, LOL)
WHISKEY DREAM KATHLEEN by Spill Canvas

Songs to hack by:

The hacking scenes were both challenging and fun to write, so I chose songs that were just plain ear candy to listen to. Pretty much every song by Three Days Grace, including:

GET OUT ALIVE
RIOT
ROBOT by Trip Lee
