A Good-Lookin' Man by Marcia Lynn McClure

However, in an instant—in less than a breath or the bat of an eyelid—the elusive pepper spray hiding somewhere in her purse was all but forgotten. For standing before her—right there before her, not three feet away—was the best-looking, most gorgeous, handsomest man she had ever seen in all her life!

“No, seriously,” she thought out loud with lingering bewilderment at how perfectly stunning the man standing before her was, wearing a worn pair of Levi’s, dusty cowboy boots, and a short-sleeved, plaid-print, snap-up shirt that hung open, revealing a bronzed, perfectly sculpted torso that was simply a mass of muscles. She was so unsettled by the man’s appearance that she wasn’t sure whether she was whispering aloud to herself or her car.

Either way, the man asked, “Beg your pardon, ma’am?”

“Oh…oh, nothing,” Fairlee said as she began rummaging in her purse again. But the man’s presence and appearance had entirely rattled her. As her awe-inspired brain obviously quit sending out instructions to the rest of her body, Fairlee felt her purse slip from her hands—watched in humiliated dismay as its contents tumbled out and scattered over the shoulder of the road.

I just love Marcia McClure’s writing. It always soothes me, makes me laugh and as she said for this book – “all is right with the world”. What I enjoy about her books is that her characters are always optimistic. It’s not to say that they don’t worry or have fears too because we all do. But it’s that she is upbeat and I always come away feeling content.

This book is a novella. It is quick to the point. Easy to read in 2 hours. I found myself laughing hard and enjoying the kissing scenes. This is a clean book and the characters are waiting for marriage to be intimate.

Fairlee (Marcia always has interesting names for her characters) is a little quirky and airheaded and is great cause to laugh. She meets this “good lookin’ man” on the side of the road five miles from her Aunt and Uncle’s farm, when her car breaks down. She is hilarious trying to find her pepper spray at the bottom of her purse. Then she spills her purse on the ground and he helps her and hands her pink bottled pepper spray. You have got to read it for yourself. Then she thinks that because he is so good looking that it is a joke her Uncle set up. She embarrassed herself with saying he was a Chippendale dancer and going on and on before she would believe he was the real deal. It is hilarious!

Lash Lantry is the vet, who specializes in artificial insemination. I swear it! He is just as sweet and kind and hunky as can be. He really smiles being around Fairlee.

The antics that happen with them will just have you laughing and sighing by the end.

I also enjoy how at the end she tells you all about why she wrote the book and the little bits of trivia or her own life that she puts in the book. I love the bacon part. I was rolling on the floor with that tidbit. She also put the recipe for the apple crisp at the end of which I am definitely craving right now!

You will enjoy this book if you like short stories, learning about bunnies having their first baby bunnies, to get rid of a very mean goose, baby kittens, hot dog and marshmallow roasting, happily married people, farm life, laughing, and clean romances
