Her Sexiest Mistake

Audience/Genre: Adult, Chick Lit, Contemporary Romance, Humor.
Publication: December 6th 2005 by Signet Eclipse.
Trusting the heart is the most sensual risk of all

With a fab career, a salary that keeps her in her favorite designers, and her own condo, Mia Appleby has everything she dreamed of as a poor little girl gazing out the window of her mom's trailer. Her old life is completely gone. That is until she has a one-night stand with her handsome new neighbor, Kevin McNight. She ends it before she totally falls for him. But Kevin isn't like other men and won't let Mia off that easy. And neither will her runaway Goth niece, Hope, who inconveniently shows up at her doorstep with hopes for a new life. Now, Mia must keep her new fan club at a safe distance-before they burst her fairytale facade

Reviewed by Kelly.

Gah! Mia is just like me! I hated reading about it! LOL! I gotta have control and I keep my emotions at bay as well. But it sure made me think about it! I didn’t do booty call though!

Mia has her life all lined up since her less than ideal childhood. She has everything she ever wanted or does she? She has a great job and her assistant, Tess, is really her only friend. But even Tess is kept from the knowledge of her childhood life. Mia has even lost her southern accent so people will see how she is now and never know that she came from a trailer home.

Mia has a new neighbor whom she brought cookies to. Cookies that were made by her friend Tess. But her neighbor, Kevin, doesn’t need to know that. Then she returns for a little booty call with him and although Mia is usually a one night stand person, she keeps going back for more. Kevin is drool worthy; and it isn’t just his good looks but his kindness and desire to help others. Kevin keeps letting Mia in but Mia keeps him at arm’s length running off after said booty calls. Kevin doesn’t want just that; he wants more. He wants Mia to open up to him. But she can’t, she doesn’t know how.

Then her niece shows up at her door as a runaway from her sister’s home. The one and only sister who wasn’t very nice to Mia growing up. So Mia gets time with her niece, Hope, and finds out she is a lot like Mia and falls in love with her.

Then at Mia’s work someone keeps sabotaging her work files and even makes a fire in her trash can in her office and Mia loses an eyebrow from it. And then Tess, who is everything to Mia, gets laid off.
So, now, Mia’s perfectly coiffured life isn’t so perfect now. And things just get worse. So, what is Mia to do? She just goes for more booty call from Kevin. But Kevin is getting tired of it and is falling hard for her.
Mia is funny and she is caring too. Hope is just as funny. I love their conversations. I love Hope’s little situations she creates. She is genius. I am glad none of my kids had her skills. Well maybe my youngest might, she is showing signs. Ha!

Mia learns how to open up, but it doesn’t come easy or without some repercussions. Kevin has a brother Mike who is hard of hearing and hasn’t grown up yet due to Kevin constantly enabling him.

This book is so cute, funny, and it has aha moments too, for all.

Vision of Shadows (Vision #1)
by Vincent Morrone.
Audience/Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal Romance.
Publication: December 30th 2013 by Entranced Publishing.
Is Bristol Blackburn about to meet the love of her life...or her killer?

After the death of her parents, Bristol Blackburn's life is thrown into chaos and she's forced to move to Spirit, a small town where shadows are stirring. As she learns to navigate her new school and figures out how to keep her psychic abilities secret from her family, Bristol comes face to face with the boy who makes a regular appearance in her dreams: the gorgeous, possibly deadly, Payne McKnight. Soon she’ll find out if Payne will be the love of her life, or the end of it — and she has no idea which possibility scares her more.

And that's not even the worst of it. Strange shadows are haunting her dreams, and they're up to something that could put Bristol and the lives of everyone she loves in jeopardy

I was supposed to do a review, but the ARC wasn't ready. So here is an excerpt......

“I’ve never met anyone like you before in my life,” Payne said.

Now it was my turn to grin. “Yeah, girls who talk to ghosts are rather unique.”

“That’s not what I mean,” Payne insisted. “You’ve never told anyone about your secret before, have you?”

I didn’t answer, but I didn’t need to.

“I cannot begin to tell you how touched I am,” Payne said. “Not only that you’re helping me, but also that you trust me. I know how big a deal it is.”

“It’s not.” I shrugged. “Not really.”

Now Payne touched my cheek, and my skin tingled underneath his fingers. “It is. Bristol, you’re braver than I am.”

I looked up into Payne’s magnificently dark blue eyes and saw it. The emotion that I always saw in my Payne loves me dreams. It was the look in his eyes he got when we were making love, or at least would get if we ever did. There was a connection between us that went beyond anything I’d ever known. I knew Payne could feel it, too.

Payne brought his other hand up, gently caressing both sides of my face. In that moment there was no doubt he would kiss me. I was ready. I didn’t care about anything else.

When I heard the laughter from behind me of a little boy, it took me a
second to blink back into reality. I backed away, and Payne’s face fell.

“We’re not alone,” I explained.

Jared McKnight had appeared, his little dog sitting obediently by his feet, its tail whipping back and forth. Jared had his hands by his eyes as if ready to cover them. A huge smile was plastered on his face.

“I can’t believe Payne was gonna kiss a girl!”

I closed my eyes and sighed. Well, he was!

Only For You (For You #1) by Genna Rulon

Only For You (For You #1)
by Genna Rulon.
Audience/Genre: New Adult, Contemporary Romance.
Publication: September 24th 2013 by Genna Rulon.
“In its purest form love is self-sacrificing, eternal, selfless, enduring, truthful, forgiving and indulgent. It also feels an awful lot like a kick to the stomach when you try to fight it!”

All Everleigh Carsen wanted to do was complete her final semester at Hensley University and begin the life she carefully planned.

When a wave of violent crime seizes campus, Everleigh is persuaded to attend a school sponsored self-defense seminar by her best friend, where she meets volunteer instructor, Hunter Charles. After Everleigh’s biting sarcasm induces Hunter to eject her from class, a tempestuous relationship is born.

Everleigh is determined to forget the striking man, but fate—that fickle shrew—continuously intervenes. Unable to escape him, she declares Hunter an enemy combatant. The only complication…Hunter is resolutely pursuing vindication…by any means necessary. Verbal warfare ensues, and despite Everleigh’s ingenious efforts, in Hunter, she has finally found her equal.

Only For You is a compelling tale of friendship, desire, and redemption—brimming with intelligent characters, witty dialogue, unexpected twists, profound sorrow, unfettered hope, and love’s unassailable perseverance.

• This story is appropriate for readers 18+
• Only For You is the first book in the For You series by Genna Rulon. Each book in the series can be read as a stand alone novel.

Quotes from Only For You:

“When someone tells you something about themselves you don’t want to hear—believe them.”

"You’re going to listen to me, and for once you’re going to hear what I say and not read between lines that aren’t there.”

“I was a fool, alone, preparing to do what every fool did at such times—I was going to a bar to drink myself smart.”

“He had a skull and crossbones label on him, but I drank his poison nevertheless and loved it; now I needed an antidote.”

“If you don’t remember your value, no one else will. Don’t ever settle, Ev. You’re far too precious a treasure to squander.”

"You'll continue to be a bitch no matter what, but I'm glad you aren't a callous, self-absorbed one."

“I stepped off the merry-go-round for a reason. It made me dizzy and I kept ending up in the same spot. It may have been fun for a short ride, but was never headed anywhere.”

"Jose had loosened my tongue; curse him, the ninety proof bastard."

"We played hot potato with my heart—me throwing it to him, him tossing it back to me. Every time the music stopped, I was always the one holding my bruised organ."

First, I want to thank Genna for sending me a sweet request to read her book. If she hadn’t of, I probably would have missed out on this wonderful book!!

This is one of those books that really grabs you, makes you laugh and cry and fall in love with all the players!! It had me guessing and second guessing the who dunnits and what was really going on. It had me disgusted too. But it was supposed to, there were violent crimes committed!

I enjoyed the witty banter between Hunter and Everleigh. It was perfect. It had me grinning from ear to ear often. They were perfect. You could feel the chemistry between the two. Everleigh was so na├»ve or just in denial in the beginning about Hunter. Everyone else told her so as well. She just believed that the hot and cold from Hunter was because he was gay. Everyone told her that he was crazy about her, but something held Hunter back from giving her his all. I kind of figured out why, but it didn’t matter, it still was jaw dropping good!! I want a Hunter! He is perfection; he makes mistakes but knows how to own up to it! You can’t get better than that!!!

Everleigh is best friends, more like sisters, with Sam. Samantha and she have been friends pretty much their whole lives. Sam’s parents are wealthy and Everleigh’s mom was their housekeeper and anywhere that Sam went she insisted Everleigh go too. So Everleigh was given much as well. When Everleigh’s mom died, Sam was all she had left and demanded to her parents that Everleigh gets pretty much what she got. Sam’s parents were well to do and gave everything money could buy to their daughter but they lacked in actually being there for her. So Sam and Everleigh were inseperable. Now they are in their last year in college together.

When a string of violent crimes on women on campus increases and the violence ends up in deaths, things become a little tense at school but Everleigh is determined to finish her last semester out so she can get her degree and not finish somewhere else a year later.

Everleigh and Sam have some amazing friends and for the most part they both make good choices. Some are harder than others to make. They both are the forgiving type and are kind and non judgmental.

Everleigh and Hunter make mistakes but due to Everleigh’s forgiving nature and Hunter’s cute, witty, creative and sincere apologies, Everleigh holds on to this man that wants to be her best friend. Their conversations are deep and he treats her with respect and utter kindness. He takes care of her. But Hunter tells her that he is in no place now to be anything more than a best friend to her now. The chemistry is overwhelming and when they finally give in to what they want from each other, it doesn’t help. She wants more and he won’t give it to her. She kicks him out. What happens from there, I am not telling. You have got to read it for yourself.

I can’t do this book justice! Yes, there are F bombs in here, but they are placed in moments of anger. So, I get it. It is not used in everyday context. But it is an excellent story, refreshingly different with chemistry and banter and wit that kept me giggling. There is a friendship that is selfless between the girls and it is everything I would hope for with my own kids. I would ask it for myself if I wasn’t already married with great friends. It is easy to get lost in this book. Well actually I did, I went well into the night reading this to finish it up. Now, I NEED the next book now. It doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, but I want to see what happens with Sam next. Because, it has the set up for another stellar guy and I love those types of guys that are kind and caring and selfless and know how to treat a girl.

Quotes I enjoyed...

I gave her a brief rundown of what had occurred; subsequently Sam… lost her mind. She let fly a string of curses that would have made the most hardened ‘Sons of Anarchy’ biker blush, in combinations I was certain had never before been conceived before. She threatened every part of ….’s person ending with a threat to castrate him and shove his balls so far down his throat that he would have breasts. She raged while pulling her earrings from her ears and slipping off her shoes, threatening to find him ………or wherever he may be.

I already knew, for me there is only you. No matter what happened between us in the future, it would only ever be you. I was made for you- only for you

I need you now, knowing you’re really mine, not having to censor my words or shutter my emotions. I need you to see and feel how deeply I love you. Can I have you, angel? Can I have all of you and keep it?

1000 Sleepless Nights by Connie Ann Michael

1000 Sleepless Nights
by Connie Ann Michael .
Audience/Genre: Contemporary Military Romance.
Publication: August 21st 2013 by Entranced Publishing.
Can you choose between fighting for your life and fighting for your heart?
Twenty-two year old Corpsman Emme Sawyer doesn’t follow rules. She’s always been the best and no one will die if she has anything to say about it.

Emme refuses to hang around the hospital waiting for the wounded to come to her and joins a Marine unit heading into Helmand Providence, the largest opium producer in Afghanistan. Shutting off her emotions, Emme focuses on what she does best…keeping her men safe. When her best friend is obliterated by a roadside bomb, Emme
begins to realize she can’t save everyone. Seeking comfort from Raven, her commanding officer, Emme develops feelings that don’t belong in a combat zone where each step could be your last. As Raven reciprocates, Emme learns you can’t choose when and where love finds you..

Reviewed by Kelly.

Ok, now I am going to sound like a hypocrite here. I hate the F bomb. But in this book of war and constant stress, I understand why they say it so much. I still hate it but I get it.

Love in a war zone. Both Raven and Sawyer or Doogie (military names), know there is no place for love in a combat zone. But the heart wants what the heart wants!

Sawyer or Doogie is a 22 year old genius who has already had 2 years of med school in her back pocket. She has been busy and has not had much dating since she was busy in college at a young age. She finds herself in the navy with a Marines unit as their corpsman on the field patching men up. She goes out with them for some humanitarian work to help the local people and children with Tahk as her personal babysitter or guard. Tahk is a sniper. He feels like Sawyer is his sister. He watches over her even though she kind of wanders off sometimes. She keeps it together when the person she is treating has had some serious injuries and pieces of them are missing. She tells them everything will be okay, because they know it’s not but they still want to hear it. She talks to them even when they are unconscious, knowing that they may still be able to hear her. She worries that she may be a distraction to the men because she is a woman.

She is a distraction, but the men like her and respect her. But her commanding officer, Raven, is having trouble not being distracted by her and treats her meanly. That is all he can do to keep her at arm’s length. Tahk and Raven go way back and Tahk sees that Raven likes her and tells him to get it together and stay away from her. He tries but isn’t very successful. Then when Tahk is unexpectantly killed, Raven becomes her personal bodyguard and they find themselves grieving together over Tahk’s loss. Well not together together. Doogie is a virgin and Raven says he will not take that from her in the war zone. Anyway, the two go back and forth with trying to distance themselves from each other and stolen kisses.

Doogie hasn’t slept in forever. She takes naps but the nightmares always come. Keeping busy is all she knows to do to keep sleep and the nightmares at bay. But she finds that sometimes being with Raven helps a little too.

This is an intense book. I can feel the stress coming off them. It would be awful to be there and not come home unscathed. There is loss and sadness and children get in the midst of the casualties too. It is awful. I almost enlisted in the military as a nurse. I don’t think I could have come back whole. It makes you appreciate what the military does and the sacrifices they give to help other people. I had to put the book down several times to get my emotions together. I couldn’t see through the tears anyway.

Don’t worry, there is a happily ever after, well as much as one can with the baggage you bring home from being in the field.

You will enjoy this book if you can handle stressful situations and vivid descriptions of the effects of stepping on land mines, finding love in the middle of it all and appreciate all the military does for one’s freedoms and their fight to help the underdog. Just have your tissues handy.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas

My family went to Peru to see my oldest daughter get married to a wonderful Peruvian man. It was a wonderful event and we went to see Machu Picchu and Cusco (made me think of the disney movie! giggle) and Pisaq. It was beautiful. So, that's why we have been a little quiet here. I have a couple pictures to share.....

My youngest daughter holding a baby llama. Or it could be an alpaca too!!??

Some of my family on Machu Picchu

A back yard view from our hotel

My brother, the military guy, dancing with the locals. She asked him!He says his charm is world wide!

If you look straight thru, they made the windows in the same place all the way through!

Lots and Lots of steps. Climbing was easy, but their was no oxygen!!!!

What the..?????

And finally, my daughter the bride.....

I have all kinds of beautiful pictures and some crazy one of the old folks (that's me) at the reception dancing gangnam style. But I am NOT sharing those!!

Hope you are having a very Merry Christmas!

If I Return is proud to be a part of The 12 NA's of Christmas
12 New Adult Novellas. 12 Best Selling Authors. November 2013.

Would you wait?

College student, Hope Camden, is relentlessly serious, awkwardly shy and in complete need of taking a walk on the wilder side. At least, that’s what her sister tells her when she drags her off for an impromptu Christmas getaway in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Hope’s plans to keep her nose in a book the entire vacation are thwarted when she meets Jack Freeman, the gorgeous and enigmatic Army helicopter pilot staying at the same resort. What was supposed to be a quiet Christmas holiday turns into a life changing event for Hope and Jack. The only problem? Jack is headed off to war, and there is no guarantee he will come back

Reviewed by Kelly.

This is one of the 12 NA's 12 New Adult Novellas.

I need to read something other than NA for awhile. So, I am not going to give this stars. It's not fair to the people who enjoy it. I am just tired of F bombs. I loved the story, I would take off for the f bombs that plague me.

This is a cute story of one really really awesome guy named Jack who catches Hope as she trips at the resort where they are staying for a wedding here in the state of North Carolina. He makes Hope's week incredible and he isn't all about the sex(although there is a lot of it). He really cares about her and treats her like a queen. Everyone should have a Jack!! He massages her feet, shaves her legs, wants to give her a fun time with her first experience with snow. He listens to her and asks all about her. This is just the first week they meet.

Sadly, it comes to an end when he has to go to Afghanistan in two weeks. This is really where the book starts one year after they meet and he is coming home, but to her only if he made it out alive. That's where the book is recalling the week they met. She is waiting at the same place in hopes of seeing him come home to her.

Her name, Hope, is really what this book is about. Hope for the troops coming home to their families and loved ones. And hope for a happy and Merry Christmas.

Hell is looking for a way to break loose…

Jax lost the genetic lottery. Descended from Cain, the world's first murderer, he's plagued by a curse that demands violence in exchange for his happiness. He left everything behind, including the girl he loved, but thriving on the pain of others is lonely… And it's killing him.

After a series of heartbreaking losses, Samantha put rubber to pavement and headed for college as fast as her clunker could carry her. But she can't outrun her problems. When an attack at school drives her back home, she's thrown into the path of a past—and a guy—she's been trying to forget.

Sam strains Jax's control over his darkness, but running isn't an option this time. Someone—or, something—followed her home from school: a ruthless monster with a twisted plan centuries in the making. Forced together to survive, and fighting an attraction that could destroy them both, Jax and Sam must stop a killer bent on revenge

Reviewed by Kelly.

This was a good twist. I enjoyed reading this. It was a little hard for me to get into it at first but then I was all in. The only thing that bugs me is all the “F” bombs. I just never heard it as much as I read it.
Samantha is a good soul herself. She keeps Jax grounded. He has always loved her and she has always loved him. But Jax up and left one night and Sam never understood why he left. Then Jax came back because his uncle who raised Jax and his twin, Chase was dying. Samantha had tried to move on and went to school but when she was attacked on campus she came home.

Chase was also home when Jax came home. Jax’s demon in him despises Chase and has wanted Chase dead. Jax has fought his literal inner demon on it for years until one night when he is over Chase with a knife in his hand and decides he needs to leave to protect his family. You see, this demon in Jax needs to feed off fear, lust or any severe emotion or violence. And Jax is too afraid of letting it hurt Samantha either so he leaves without so much as a goodbye or note.

When Jax sees them both, he wants to leave but stays when he finds out Samantha is in danger. Then after being back and the sparks are still there between them, his demon decides he likes Sam too.

Then Jax learns of the rules of the demons when he comes back and has to fight for his life and Sam’s too.

Then all hell breaks loose as things get more complicated and Jax finds out who is inner demon really is and what he is. Now, he is running out of time to find out what demon has literal control over Sam. And then he has to figure out how to fix it. And with intimacy being a problem ,due to the demon’s need for strong emotion and violence, things get more complicated and creative. But Sam will wait for Jax because even when she finds out about Jax, she is still there for him and believes in him.

There are many deals made by the end of the book and it is both happy and sad. I want the next book NOW . I may lose it soon and find my inner demon; because Sam and Jax still need each other and I need to see that! I kind of knew where some of this was going but I didn’t guess it all. Now, I have more questions than answers. But, Jax, he is definitely swoon worthy material!

If you like, demons, good vs. evil, wars, super strength, someone else getting the injuries and not you, because you have that kind of power, and fighting for what you want and overcoming what you are then you will like this.

4.5 stars for I am getting tired of lots of F bombs in books!

...I'd watched the girl with the long brown hair stand eerily still. She didn't cry. Didn't speak. Only stood there staring at the ground as her parents were lowered into the cold, wet earth. Even then, so early in my life, I saw pieces of myself mirrored in her eyes. Lost. Alone. Separated. Ruined. It was another one of those defining moments. I'd known, even then, that this girl would play a monumental role in my life. We'd grown up close. Inseparable, really. Friends. Partners in crime. It was the last step-love-that pushed me to leave her behind.

Here is an exclusive excerpt...

Nate looks me over, from my jacket to my favorite pair of jeans, to the shoes that are bonfire-worthy but still cute. My hair, with the help of a straightener, is so silky that my dark bangs fall into my eyes even more than usual. My eye makeup is amped up. Whether all of this is because of the bonfire or because of who I hoped I’d run into before leaving is open for debate. He reaches up and brushes my bangs away from my face. The split-second touch makes me crave more. “You look gorgeous.”

“Thank you.”

“Where are you headed?”

Though staying here in the garage might be a better option, I say, “A bonfire.”

Nate studies me again, but this time it feels like he’s looking for something deeper. “Don’t you ever get tired of sneaking out?”

“Not really,” I say with a shrug.

He tugs on the zipper of my fleece, lowering it slightly and pulling me closer. “What are you running from, Hanley?”

It feels like my secrets are written all over my face, but I say, “Nothing.”

When he smiles, it’s almost sad. “I don’t buy it.”

I lean in, putting both hands on the car behind him, one on either side, trapping him. “You tell me why you’re living in my garage and I’ll tell you what I’m running from.”

He gives a sly smile and doesn’t budge. “Secrets it is.”

“Secrets it is,” I echo. And even though the small space between us is electric and threatening to disappear, I push off the car and step away. “I’ll see you later,” I say as I open the door.

“Hanley,” he says before I can get too far. “Be careful out there, okay?”

I don’t make any promises.

This book had me giggling, crying and a saying a lot of “oh no he didn’t”!! I love this book. It was original! I loved the heck out of Robert (the dog). There is an epilogue in his POV. That had me balling my eyes out!! How could anyone not love this story!!

We have Kate who owns a matchmaking service with a few of her best friends. They are really sincere about putting together people. They all have talents that work together in helping others. Thing is – they all have flaws of their own to finding their own matches. Kate is unique in that she has a touch that is a gift/curse that gives her a shock when she has the right match (when she touches them). She has had some failures of matches of her own and is a virgin at 30 years old. Good for her!

Anyway, Jane is a client. She has had a real hard time with relationships in the past and her brother/ divorce lawyer is her only family left and is a fierce protector. He (Slade) thinks Kinnections (the name of the matchmaking company) is out to take all of Jane’s money and decides to join it to prove it and watch over Jane.

Well, Slade and Kate have an immediate attraction. Then when they touch, they both get an intense shock and Kate knows she is in trouble. This guy is her match. He, however, doesn’t believe in long lasting relationships and is only there to prove them to be a scam. Slade believes this due to the fact that he once had a wife, one who cheated on him and he has seen a lot being a divorce lawyer! Kate tries to avoid him and him, her. But, neither can seem to keep the other off their mind.

Kate’s mother is hilarious. She is a sex therapist in the literal sense of the word. She smokes pot and is in the long line of women who have the gift of touch.

Kate also has a dog with severe handicaps that she rescued and loves fiercely. Slade seems to be fond of her dog too.
This is the story of Kate and Slade and how Slade learns that all people aren’t like his divorce clients and real love with lasting relationships does exist.

Quotes to think on…

“I’m not built for forever. At least, not with someone who thinks love is a fairy tale and we’ll live happily ever after. You haven’t seen the things I have, the truth of what so-called love does to people. There is no forever.” Slade
"I'm not looking for forever. But I am looking for someday. I think I deserve that." Kate

“The possibility of love is worth everything Mr. Montgomery. Pain, heartbreak, grief. It is the only thing worthwhile to fight for in this life. And though there are never any promises, if one is true and brave enough to give, there will never be regret. “Kate

“Yeah, a matchmaker and a divorce lawyer. That’s got success written all over it.”

“I guess if you never give up and keep fighting, eventually you find the one meant for you, or the ones……
Daddy walked over, patted me on the head, and gave me my treat. I munched on the crunchy treat, pulled Bunny Squeak closer, and felt happy. I guess sometimes you can’t give up hope, even if you are broken.” Robert the dog.

Book Blitz and Giveaway: Third Daughter (The Dharian Affairs Trilogy #1)

Third Daughter (The Dharian Affairs Trilogy #1)
by Susan Kaye Quinn.
Audience/Genre: Adult, Fantasy, Romance, Steampunk.
Publication: December 13th 2013.
The Third Daughter of the Queen wants her birthday to arrive so she'll be free to marry for love, but rumors of a new flying weapon may force her to accept a barbarian prince's proposal for a peace-brokering marriage. Desperate to marry the charming courtesan she loves, Aniri agrees to the prince's proposal as a subterfuge in order to spy on him, find the weapon, and hopefully avoid both war and an arranged marriage to a man she does not love.

Third Daughter is the first book in The Dharian Affairs Trilogy (Third Daughter, Second Daughter, First Daughter). This steampunk-goes-to-Bollywood (Bollypunk!) romance takes place in an east-indian-flavored alternate world filled with skyships, saber duels, and lots of royal intrigue. And, of course, kissing.

Enjoy Chapter One,Third Daughter (The Dharian Affairs #1)

The cloudless night whispered sweet promises to Aniri.
Below her stone rooftop, the shadows of the forested grounds danced in the summer’s breeze, their small rustlings calling to her like a lover. The sound was the perfect cover for escape into the darkness and the warm arms she hoped to find there. No one should notice her absence. Of all the guards, handmaidens, and many silent keepers of the royal household, none would venture up to her private observatory this late in the eve. But she still had to be careful. Even this close to her birthday, the Queen would not be forgiving if she was caught.

Aniri scanned the palace grounds to make sure it was clear of any witnesses. The manicured lawns were empty: the only sign of life came from the distant embassy windows where gas lamps flickered and soft music trilled from late-reveling partygoers. Aniri pressed the leather eyecup of her aetherscope to her face, slowly turning the brass knobs to bring the party into focus. The instrument was meant for watching the rise of the twin full moons, but it worked well enough for spying on the Samirian ambassador and her assemblage of guests.

Their shiny new automaton was thick-legged and awkward, but the Samirian tinker’s design was still clever: the steam-driven mechanical wonder actually danced, albeit just one clumsy pirouette after another. When it came to a graceless stop, the guests snapped their fingers in appreciation. The faint sound of their applause drifted over the lawn, but the party continued on. With the grounds still empty, Aniri swung her aetherscope to the forest. The broken edges of the river snaked through the darkened trees, slipped under a stone bridge, and then flowed past the red sandstone walls of the Queen’s estate. A black shape darted out from under the bridge, then disappeared into the shadows between the trees.

Time to go.

She peered over the edge of the balcony. No sense in being caught by someone who snuck out for a dalliance in the dark. With the way clear, she opened the leather satchel at her feet and uncoiled the sheet she had twisted into a rope. Always check your knots, Aniri. Her father’s voice accompanied her on every climb, but she had to wonder what he would have made of this particular one. She rechecked the knots. It would cause quite a stir if she plummeted to her death while climbing down the palace wall.

The massive stone lion that guarded the parapet served as an excellent anchor. She looped the rope around it, then stood on the edge of the wall and leaned out over the blackness. Loop the rope under and between your feet, Aniri. It will carry your weight. Practical advice, but knots would impede her progress, and speed was of the essence. She lowered herself, hand over hand, bracing her feet against the wall. A mossy spot, hidden by the dark and slick with dew, sent her silk slippers pawing rapid-fire several times before she found purchase between the giant stone blocks.
Always use the proper equipment. She took a deep breath. Her father would probably disapprove of her attire. Silk nightclothes were hardly climbing wear, and she couldn’t find any plausible excuse to wear her climbing shoes to bed. Her handmaiden, Priya, was far too clever for that—and already suspicious when Aniri wanted to retire to her observatory alone. At least she had her fingerless climbing gloves, and on every climb she wore the thin, braided bracelet her father gave her. For luck. She thought he would approve.

Hand over hand, Aniri continued her descent. Halfway down, a sudden clacking broke the quiet and rose above the scrapings of her slippers on the treacherous walls. She held still against the cool stone, hands gripped tight on her rope of sheets. A lone two-wheeled surrey ambled out of the shadows of the Samirian embassy and headed toward her dark corner of the Queen’s estate. Aniri held her breath and silently cursed the full two-moon night. If the carriage came much closer, the occupants would surely see her clinging to the side of the palace like a spider on her thread.

The six-hooved beast pulling the surrey slowed as it neared the giant stone statue of Devkasera. The mother goddess of ancient Dharia loomed larger-than-life, threatening the carriage with a sword and a scroll—the powers of destruction and creation—clasped in two of her six hands. The Queen loved the ancient traditions, so the goddess held a place of respect in the middle of the palace lawns. Aniri preferred the clean streets and steam-driven inventions of modern Dharia to the unwashed feet and mystic religion of her country’s past, but that didn’t stop her from sending a silent prayer to Devkasera—for invisibility for herself or perhaps a sudden loss of sight by the persons in the carriage.

The surrey paused at the statue, then veered right and headed for the far wall that enclosed the estate. Aniri repressed a laugh—perhaps she should pray to Devkasera to bring her birthday sooner as well. Her arms ached from holding her position, but she waited until the carriage had passed through the palace gate. Beyond it, the lights of Kartavya, Dharia’s capital city, winked through the coal-smoke haze as if giving her an all-clear signal.

Her muscles rejoiced when she moved again, working her way down the last half of the wall and dropping the final two feet. From there, she scampered over the surrounding manicured hedgerows as if she had fled the palace a hundred times before. Her unbound dark hair flapped behind her, and the cool night breeze fluttered her black silk nightclothes against her skin like a thousand butterfly wings. It was the feeling of freedom breathing against her, and she had to clamp her teeth against the giggle that threatened to ruin her escape.
She slowed and picked her way through the darkened brambles of the forest grabbing at her legs. The first time, she slipped away from dinner in her normal evening attire—a midnight-black corset latched with brass clasps, a starched skirt of blood-red silk, and a sweep of silk over her shoulder for the traditional touch the Queen required. Aniri thought the dark colors would ease her escape, but she had stuck to the needled branches like a royal pincushion. The second time, she cast aside the bodice and most of the silk, keeping only her short bloomers and camisole—essentially running through the forest in her unmentionables. That had been deliciously decadent, but also very chilly. This time, her nightclothes were proving the most suitable costume yet for midnight escapades.

She smiled and slipped through the forest like a phantom, black on black, silent and stealthy. The faint trace of coal smoke gave way to the fresh scent of leaves mixed with river mist. She breathed it deep: the lushness of it always captivated her. The Queen had imported trees and beasts from the barbarians in the north to recreate the Dharian forests long ago swept away by agriculture. Fortunately, her majesty favored the gentle animals sacred to the gods. Aniri was careful not to disturb a long-tailed bandir hanging from a branch, eyes closed and peaceful. She didn’t believe the superstitions about waking one, but she couldn’t afford the screech it would let loose.

Aniri broke out of the forest and onto the wet rocks bordering the river. The footbridge ahead was a silent sentinel over the constant chatter of the river. There was no sign of movement. Was she too late? But then Devesh stepped from the shadows, showing his face to the moons as if he had nothing to hide.

She skittered over the slippery rocks and flew into his arms.

“Aniri,” he said, but she was uninterested in wasting precious moments with words. She shut him up with her lips pressed fiercely to his. He closed his dark, humor-filled eyes, and wrapped his arms around her. Being a courtesan, he was well-trained in courtly conversation, but the artistry of his lips moving slow yet urgent against hers made her forget her own name.

Susan Kaye Quinn grew up in California, where she wrote snippets of stories and passed them to her friends during class. Her teachers pretended not to notice and only confiscated her stories a couple times.

Susan left writing behind to pursue a bunch of engineering degrees, but she was drawn back to writing by an irresistible urge to share her stories with her niece, her kids, and all the wonderful friends she’s met along the way.

She doesn’t have to sneak her notes anymore, which is too bad.

Susan writes from the Chicago suburbs with her three boys, two cats, and one husband. Which, it turns out, is exactly as a much as she can handle.

Mixing business with pleasure never felt so right.

Blake Buchanan and Anastasia Delaney were roommates in college and could never see eye to eye about anything. The only time their walls came down was during one night of passion before Ana left without a word, never expecting to cross paths with Blake again.

Years later, Blake has made his millions. He comes back to Ana’s small California town to manage a corporate takeover that will close down the home restoration business she’s poured her heart and soul into. The fiery Ana is determined to convince money-minded Blake of her business’s worth, but when a family emergency throws them together, their walls come tumbling down once again…

Problem is, Blake’s business-first position hasn’t changed. And Ana can’t fall for the man who could become her boss—it’s not only her job at stake, but her heart.

If you had to describe Tangling with the CEO in three words, what would they be?

Loving. Friendship. Fun.

Where did you get the idea for this story?

If you had to pick celebrity look-alikes for Blake and Anastasia, who would they be?

Ian Somerhalder for Blake, and Kate Hudson for Ana.

What's your all-time favorite book and why?

Anne of Green Gables. It is an enduring tale. I was named after Anne Shirley, and it is the first book I remember reading as a child.

I love quotes! Can you share one of your favorite quotes from a book with us?

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson

What do you like to do when you're not writing?

You will either find me in my garden…or on the beach. Nowhere else!

If you could pick any place to live in the world, where would it be and why?

On a tropical island where I can her the sea… and feel the warmth of the sun all year. I am a Cancerian and water is my element.

Do you have any other books in the works?

LOL…I always have books in the works…are you ready? Hot Rock, a time slip novel is out with Entangled in February. The sequel to Tangling with the CEO is almost written and I believe it will be published in April. The prequel to Dangerous Desire is called Seductive Secrets and is in the planning stage. With their huge fan-base and increasing popularity, Studio C aims to produce clean, family-oriented comedy for a national audience.

Reviewed by Kelly.

We don't watch much tv at home. There isn't enough time. But we watch 2 things- The news and Studio C. Well, I should say my daughter watches the show, but everytime she watches it, I get sucked into it. I can't help it. It makes us all laugh. She has even had some of her teachers watch some of them when they have something to do with some event in school.

Because I am a labor and delivery nurse, I could not contain my laughter at the dad getting the labor pains for his wife! Cracked me up!

There are plenty of parodies for those who enjoy those too, like one on Downtown Abbey.

There are some that are so stupid it is funny!!

Another of my fav's is the Presidential shoulder angel. I especially enjoy watching the angel try to get on the shoulders and then transfer their leg to one shoulder. HILARIOUS!! They have the angel skits in the following years as well. When the DVD came for review, I saw that you could buy a shirt that says with an arrow "Shoulder Angel Goes Here". I bought one! You have got to check them out.

My favorites though are the tongue twisters. I have one to share with you below. If you are in a dark mood and want to feel better than these will help brighten your mood. They have to keep doing it until they get the whole sketch perfect. I was laughing with their mess ups and their purposeful mess ups as well.

Their clean and fun humor is perfect for the whole family. Like I said, my 13 year old is addicted and now I am too! The season after this DVD gets even better so jump in and grab some popcorn and a drink. Just be careful, because it may cause laughter and you may find liquid coming out of your nose or popcorn going the wrong way. Have someone ready to do the heimlich maneuver!

Life can change in the blink of an eye. This blink came when a cop car cruised up The Seacrest’s white shell driveway on a hot Saturday in July.

I’ll never forget the moment. You know how folks remember where they were when John Lennon died? Or when President Kennedy was assassinated? It was like that, every detail stamped into my brain, forever.

A fresh breeze laden with the scent of the sea rustled blue flowers in a nearby hydrangea hedge. Hot and sweaty, I stood in the blazing sun, feeling like a fool. I’d just finished weed wacking around the paddock fence posts. Unfortunately, said weed wacker had spooked Libby Vanderhorn’s favorite mare, Serendipity, who I secretly called Dippy, because she was such a loose cannon. She’d bucked three times and knocking down several fence boards. Libby was a good rider, but this time she’d landed in a sprawling heap on the soft dirt, swearing at me.

The boss’s gorgeous, stuck-up daughter didn’t mince words, and the sting of her accusations still sounded in my head. How stupid can you be, Finn? What’s wrong with you?

Libby’s father held great power on Cape Cod. Rudolph Vanderhorn sat on so many boards, I’d lost count. His father’s fish canning company made a fortune back in the eighties, and he and his daughter had enjoyed the spoils ever since.

I stooped to pick up a hammer from my toolbox, planning to reattach the fence boards before any of Libby’s horses got hurt on the protruding nails. Curious now, I watched the Brewster Police car circle the long drive, heading toward the mansion. The local authorities stopped by every few days to discuss town matters with my boss. But today the blue light was flashing, which didn’t look like a casual visit.

A shudder went through me, and I turned cold. Something bad had happened. I sensed it.

He looked down at her, and for one brief moment, his mind went blank as he once more became aware of
her as a woman and not the gifted web designer about to rescue his records. She really was exquisite.
Creamy skin begging to be stroked. Lips so soft and lush a man had to be a eunuch not to want to taste them. And
her eyes beckoned him, when they weren’t daring him to forget he was raised right, and haul her into his arms.

Her calm voice penetrated his sensual thoughts. It annoyed him that she was so unruffled all the time when he
couldn’t think straight around her.

Wanting to rattle her a little, he shifted and propped his butt on his desk, so he could see her face. “I
stopped doubting you the moment you said you wouldn’t insult me by climbing into my bed.” Her cheeks grew
pink. “That is what convinced you? Why?”

“The look in your eyes said you actually meant it.” Her eyes widened, and he grinned. The flustered look
suited her.

“What look?” she asked, sounding skeptical. She had a right to be. He was making up things as he went,
to his old self hours after meeting her.

“Like I was a troll with warts and bulbous nose.”

She laughed.

The sound washed over him, and his heartbeat shot up a notch. He feigned hurt and gave her his most

look. “Now you are laughing at me.”

“Not at you, but at what you said.”

“Does that mean I’m not trollish?”
