I noticed that A Night of Southern Comfort is your first novel; can you tell us how the idea for it came about?
All of my books start with the first line. It pops in my head and I have to find out what follows, who said or thought it. In this instance, I saw this elegant woman sitting at bar looking at a stranger across the room and knowing that what she was thinking would get her kicked out of the Junior League. I just had to see if she went through with picking that man up . . .
If you had to describe Jackson and Michaela in one word each, what would they be?
Jackson: Haunted.
Michaela: Determined.
Michaela: Determined.
How did you decide on your character names and personality? Any particular influence?
Ahh . . . Jackson was easy. He’s southern and sexy and haven’t we all known a hot dude from the South named Jackson? I knew he was quiet, a loner and that he more comfortable pretending to be someone else on an undercover assignment than he was being himself.
Michaela was a bit harder. I wanted her to have an elegant name because she is very classy and comes from big time money. So I went to a baby name book and looked until I found one that screamed “Money”!

When did you decide that you wanted to write?
I’ve always scribbled down stories, scenes but never an entire book. When I turned forty I decided that “someday I’ll write a book” needed to be now because I’m not getting any younger. I think I also had the maturity and the skills to see it through. So, I wrote my first book in 6 months. It will NEVER see the light of day . . . it was my practice book. A Night of Southern Comfort is the second book I wrote.
Who’s your favorite romance author?
I love Harper Fox. She writes deeply emotional and sexy male/male romance. Her novel, “Life After Joe” is my favorite. I also love the humor of Jill Shalvis – just a wonderful writer and I was so excited to meet her last year. Total fangirl moment!
Favorite chick flick/romantic movie?
“Love and Other Drugs” with Jake Gyllenhall and Anne Hathaway. So sexy and Jake is amazingly funny . . . and sexy . . . and he’s naked for at least 40% of the movie. Whew! It is also a tearjerker and so romantic!
This is a question I need to ask all romance authors – Bad Boy or Prince Charming? What’s your pick?
Bad Boy. I like a man who has rough edges.
Any plans for your next book?
I just sold a Christmas novella to Entangled Publishing which will be out this holiday season. I have a paranormal and a super sexy category in the works and I’m writing the proposal for the three sequel books to ANoSC. I make sure that Jackson’s hot friends—Lucky, Teague, and Beck—all get their happy ending.
