Hemlock (Hemlock #1) by Kathleen Peacock

Hemlock (Hemlock #1) by Kathleen Peacock.
Audience/Genre : Young Adult/Paranormal.
Publication : May 8th 2012 by Katherine Tegen Books.
Mackenzie and Amy were best friends. Until Amy was brutally murdered.

Since then, Mac’s life has been turned upside down. She is being haunted by Amy in her dreams, and an extremist group called the Trackers has come to Mac’s hometown of Hemlock to hunt down Amy’s killer: A white werewolf.

Lupine syndrome—also known as the werewolf virus—is on the rise across the country. Many of the infected try to hide their symptoms, but bloodlust is not easy to control.

Wanting desperately to put an end to her nightmares, Mac decides to investigate Amy’s murder herself. She discovers secrets lurking in the shadows of Hemlock, secrets about Amy’s boyfriend, Jason, her good pal Kyle, and especially her late best friend. Mac is thrown into a maelstrom of violence and betrayal that puts her life at risk.

Kathleen Peacock’s thrilling novel is the first in the Hemlock trilogy, a spellbinding urban fantasy series filled with provocative questions about prejudice, trust, lies, and love.

I've never been much of a werewolf person. I tried giving Maggie Stiefvater's Wolves of Mercy Falls Trilogy a shot but realized back that that I just didn't find werewolves appealing/attractive.

I was a little skeptical about this book at first and kept putting it off but against all judgement I decided to read Hemlock because one of my friends told me it was awesome and she was totally right.

Mac lives in a different world that's plagued by a virus known as The Lupine Syndrome which causes the affected to turn into werewolves.
The story begin's with Mac's best friend Amy's funeral, who was attacked by a werewolf one night that led to her death. No one knows who the wolf is. Determined to find Amy's killer, Mac takes the task upon herself, during which she discovers things even she didn't see coming about Amy's ex-boyfriend Jason and Mac's best friend Kyle.

Love triangles usually suck. Most of the times they're not realistic or well-formed and tend be dramatic just to cause some emotion and I just don't see them working. They usually just end up frustrating me but there are a few rare books that actually pull it off well and make it hard to decide who to root for. Hemlock is one of them. Jason and Kyle are both dreamy in their own way and I guess it depends on your taste to know who's side you're on. I'm Team Jason all the way!

If you, like me, love the story of Red Riding Hood then this book is perfect for you. The small town of Hemlock, the characters and plot all have a dark tone to it that just draws you in. One of the best debuts this year, Hemlock is a must-read for lovers of all things paranormal!
