There can only be one allegiance.
It’s her time to choose.

Some humans can see the fae. McKenzie Lewis can track them, reading the shadows they leave behind. But some shadows lead to danger. Others lead to lies.

A Houston college student trying to finish her degree, McKenzie has been working for the fae king for years, tracking vicious rebels who would claim the Realm. Her job isn’t her only secret. For just as long, she’s been in love with Kyol, the king’s sword-master—and relationships between humans and fae are forbidden.

But any hope for a normal life is shattered when she’s captured by Aren, the fierce and uncompromising rebel leader. He teaches her the forbidden fae language and tells her dark truths about the Court, all to persuade her to turn against the king. Time is running out, and as the fight starts to claim human lives, McKenzie has no choice but to decide once and for all whom to trust and where she ultimately stands in the face of a cataclysmic civil war.

Yay! Finally another book I liked almost as much as KMM's Fever Series or Richelle Mead's Dark Swan and Georgina Kincaid Series!

I don't like a book that starts too slow or too fast, I need the beginning to be set at a moderate pace and gradually move onto becoming un-put-down-able but with The Shadow Reader, Sandy Williams has managed to gather the awesomeness of an entire series and put it in the first book alone. She has definitely set the bar pretty high for the second book.

A stubborn, tough female protagonist and two really hot guys stuck in a love triangle? Pretty hard to decide who to root for and I usually hate love triangles. It's not often that I come across a book where the love triangle doesn't make me want to rip the pages out. Nothing about McKenzie, Aren or Kyol was frustrating. I'm pretty sure the author hinted at which direction the 'romance' would go among the characters and I have to thank her for that because I would've gone crazy otherwise.

The Shadow Reader is an Adult Urban Fantasy Novel with a fresh plot that gives us a new take on the world of Fae.
I'm not kidding when I say that it's fast paced, the book will literally have you tearing through the pages wondering what would happen next. The book has it all - insanely hot romance, fantastic characters and a stunning plot/world-building.

Freakin' amazing from start to finish. I need to get my hands on the sequel, The Shattered Dark, like right now!

  1. This isn't the first great review I read about this book. However, it was actually a DNF for me. I never got into the characters and didn't care McKenzie or which of the guys really cared about her. I think I got to about 100 pages from the end and said the heck with it.

  2. i never read Adult Urban Fantasy Novel before, sounds interesting :)
