Pure (Covenant, #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

There is need. And then there is Fate...

Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her.

When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon... and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude... or killing her.

When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

If you haven't read any of Jennifer's books yet, I'd say get on it right away. She's absolutely amazing! You know how some books have a way of sucking you in and leaving you wanting more? Well, this is one of them. In fact, all of Jennifer's books are addictive.

I noticed a likeness between Vampire Academy and Half-Blood when I first read it, however, that ended with book one. Pure has Greek Mythology written all over it and keeps you completely engrossed. Jennifer Armentrout has developed the story tremendously in Pure, with the Gods playing a much bigger role.

To be honest, I love Jennifer's books because of her characters - they're awesome. If you've read my review of Half-Blood, you'll know how much I love Aiden and Alex.
Now there's Seth - he's grown on me so much that I'm literally dreading who Alex is going to end up with. I hate a love triangle where both the guys are so swoon-worthy that they make the final choice so darn hard. All I can say is that I'm hoping Jennifer has a spin-off series for the guy left out.

Moving on, Alex is just as awesome in Pure, the romance is just as steamy - only it's more with Seth this time. They're like two pieces of a puzzle that fit together perfectly. Although I loved their witty and sarcastic banter in this book, for some reason, I have a problem trusting Seth. I just know he's going to break Alex's heart and I'm almost afraid of the moment it happens. Something's up with Lucian and Seth, I'm sure of it.

In this book, we understand a bit more about the prophecy, the connection between Seth and Alex and the laws that govern the Pure and Half-Bloods. Although Pure was a little slow at times, it contained a lot of crucial bits of information relevant to the story over-all that made it impossible to stop reading. In the first book, we only hear of the cruel treatment that Half-Bloods receive but in Pure, we actually witness it.

I cannot WAIT to get my hands on Deity. If you've read Half-Blood, believe me, Pure won't let you down. If you haven't read The Covenant Series yet, pick it up right now, it's absolutely epic!

  1. Hehehe, I just finished reading this one this morning and literally spun over to Goodreads to pound out my review. I couldn't agree more with everything you've said. This is the third review I've seen in as many days that have described it as epic. And yeah, I'm chomping at the bit for Deity now, too. :o)

  4. Great review! I loved Half-Blood and happy to hear that Pure does not disappoint. I'm eager to read more about the relationship between the Pures and Half-bloods and the background of the whole society. Definitely on my TBR list!

    Thanks,

  8. I know, right? I just finished it, & am still making plots in my mind to guess what will happen. OF COURSE Seth will do something! I'm SURE he's lying to Alex, & meanwhile Aiden is to-die-swooning-for & he did for Alex... what he did at the end of Pure, I have the feeling that (just because they;re gonna end together) in Deity he's going to surprice us... I just don't know how yet. YET.

i have a so wierd feeling 'cause I'm sure Aiden is Love & Seth is need... what will the god do about that?
