Publication : April 24th 2012 by Harlequin Teen.
Book Trailer.

Julie Kagawa is brilliant! There's no doubt about it.
After the whole Twilight mania I honestly thought I was done with vampire novels but as soon as I heard about The Immortal Rules, I knew I had to get my hands on it!
The Immortal Rules takes place in a dystopian world where vampires reign and humans are basically slaves. Allison Sekemoto lives in the vampire city of New Covington where most humans face poverty and supplying blood to the vampires once a month is the only way to guarantee you're fed and left alive. However, Allison's not one of those humans. She'd rather starve than live by their rules and that's what gets her into trouble.
I don't even know where to begin. This book is awesomeness at its best, well, most of it anyway. I'm a huge dystopia fan and Kagawa's descriptions, characters and world building are fantastic in this one. The Immortal Rules is very different from her Iron Fey series - it's a lot darker - which is why I loved it so much!
Allison is strong, tough and a survivor - my favorite kind of protagonist. Kanin's quite badass as well. Seriously, all the characters were awesome. I wasn't really into the Zeke-Allison romance at first but even he managed to grow on me towards the end. I loved how the book started out all dark like it was something out of The Watchmen movie but somewhere in the middle, the story became less about vampires and more about survival. My favorite parts in the book were the ones that took place in the Vampire City so there were some chapters I found a bit slow in comparison - like the ones with Zeke and his group.
However, the story turned around and got all dark and awesome again towards the end. I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on the sequel. I liked The Immortal Rules so much that I pre-ordered a copy despite having read it. If you like dystopia and are okay with vampires that aren't sparkly and pretty, believe me this book is a killer read!

In a future world, Vampires reign. Humans are blood cattle. And one girl will search for the key to save humanity.
Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.
Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them. The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked—and given the ultimate choice. Die or become one of the monsters.
Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.
Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend—a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.
But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what—and who—is worth dying for.

Julie Kagawa is brilliant! There's no doubt about it.
