Diagnosed with Stage IV thyroid cancer at 12, Hazel was prepared to die until, at 14, a medical miracle shrunk the tumours in her lungs... for now.

Two years post-miracle, sixteen-year-old Hazel is post-everything else, too; post-high school, post-friends and post-normalcy. And even though she could live for a long time (whatever that means), Hazel lives tethered to an oxygen tank, the tumours tenuously kept at bay with a constant chemical assault.

Enter Augustus Waters. A match made at cancer kid support group, Augustus is gorgeous, in remission, and shockingly to her, interested in Hazel. Being with Augustus is both an unexpected destination and a long-needed journey, pushing Hazel to re-examine how sickness and health, life and death, will define her and the legacy that everyone leaves behind.

The Fault in Our StarsThe Fault in Our Stars by John Green

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

For the first time, I'm actually speechless. After I finished reading The Fault in Our Stars, I found myself torn between deciding if I wanted to rip it to shreds or treasure it. Obviously, I'm going with the latter.

This book was a messy ride - there were times I loved it and times I was weeping like a maniac.
I've heard so much about John Green's books but this is the first book I've read that was written by him. I will undoubtedly be devouring all his other books next. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is because I can't. You'd understand why if you've read it. Funnily enough, it may also be the reason why I'm currently speechless - in a good way. I don't want to dissect/analyze it in my review. Honestly, I just want to enjoy it and the way I felt in the moments after I finished reading it.

The Fault in Our Stars was an emotional roller-coaster; funny, gut-wrenching and beautiful all at once. I loved it.

  1. I agree! You can't just really write a review for this one. I love Augustus! <3 It's going to leave you speechless even after a couple of days or even after a long time. I do understand why you gave it only 4. Somehow, I can feel why! Though, I still gave it a 5 on Goodreads. :) Thanks for your short but honest review. :)

  4. I LOVED TFiOS, and I know many people who had trouble putting their thoughts into words after reading this book (including me). It was such an emotional story.

Side note: my thoughts are stars I can't fathom into constellations.

  12. This book was really good, it was my first John Green book too. It's been about a month since I've read it and I still can't decide if I love it or hate it. The ending just blew me away, it was cute and everything, it was just kind of frustrating.

  18. Sounds like a wonderfully bittersweet read. Characters that make you fall in love with them...that's what I need. Thanks!
