Blog Tour : Pure (Covenant #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Today's the blog tour of Pure, Book Two in the Covenant series by Jennifer Armentrout. For those of you who don't know, Jennifer is also the author of the AWESOME Lux Series which I'm in love with! This blog tour is hosted by Valerie at Stuck in Books. Check out the other tour stops here.

Pure (Covenant, #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Audience/Genre : Young Adult/Paranormal.
Publication : April 3rd by Spencer Hill Press.

There is need. And then there is Fate...

Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her.

When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon... and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude... or killing her.

When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

Did I mention that there's a chance to win not one, but TWO prize packs in this tour? "But when Aiden looked at me like he did now, I forgot about the world. I couldn’t read much of anything from Aiden’s expression, but his eyes…well, his eyes told me he wasn’t doing so great with the whole pretending-we-hadn’t-almost-hooked-up charade. Aiden still thought about it; hell, he was thinking about it right now. Maybe he imagined what wouldn’t happened if Leon hadn’t interrupted—maybe even as much as I did. Maybe he’d lie awake and remember how our bodies had felt together. I know I did.”
Pure, Pages 8-9.

About Jennifer L. Armentrout :

Jennifer lives in Martinsburg, West Virginia. All the rumors you've heard about her state aren't true. When she's not hard at work writing, she spends her time reading, working out, watching really bad zombie movies, pretending to write, and hanging out with her husband and her Jack Russel Loki. Her dreams of becoming an author started in algebra class, where she spent most of her time writing short stories, which explains her dismal grades in math.
Jennifer writes young adult paranormal, science fiction, fantasy, and contemporary romance. She also writes adult romance under the name J. Lynn. She is the author of the Covenant Series, the Lux Series, and the upcoming YA contemporary mystery/thrillers Don't Look Back (Disney/Hyperion Fall 2013) and yet untitled book (Disney/Hyperion tentative Fall 2014).

The Book of Blood and Shadow by Robin Wasserman

The Book of Blood and Shadow by Robin Wasserman.
Audience/Genre : Young Adult/Mystery,Mythology.
Publication: April 10th 2012 by Random House Children's Books.
It was like a nightmare, but there was no waking up. When the night began, Nora had two best friends and an embarrassingly storybook one true love. When it ended, she had nothing but blood on her hands and an echoing scream that stopped only when the tranquilizers pierced her veins and left her in the merciful dark.

But the next morning, it was all still true: Chris was dead. His girlfriend Adriane, Nora's best friend, was catatonic. And Max, Nora's sweet, smart, soft-spoken Prince Charming, was gone. He was also—according to the police, according to her parents, according to everyone—a murderer.

Desperate to prove his innocence, Nora follows the trail of blood, no matter where it leads. It ultimately brings her to the ancient streets of Prague, where she is drawn into a dark web of secret societies and shadowy conspirators, all driven by a mad desire to possess something that might not even exist. For buried in a centuries-old manuscript is the secret to ultimate knowledge and communion with the divine; it is said that he who controls the Lumen Dei controls the world. Unbeknownst to her, Nora now holds the crucial key to unlocking its secrets. Her night of blood is just one piece in a puzzle that spans continents and centuries. Solving it may be the only way she can save her own life.

Wow. I just finished this book 5 minutes ago and all I can say is - Wow.
I don't even know where/how to begin. The Book of Blood and Shadow had it all - Mystery, Suspense, History, and Romance.

Robin Wasserman is one of those exceptional writers who can get you emotionally invested in the characters and the plot from the beginning, before the story even really begins. Nora, Chris, Adrianne, Max and Eli are all unique and relatable characters - they're each the kind of person similar to someone you would've come across at some point of your life.

When I read a book, I usually find myself relating to or getting attached to just one or at the most, two characters and they're usually the protagonist and his/her love interest. However, I found myself rooting for and sometimes even yelling at the characters in this novel. Nora made a fantastic protagonist, strong and realistic. If you've read the blurb then this isn't a spoiler, the story really begins with Chris' death and although I knew this when I began reading the book, it was still a huge blow for me. I love Wasserman for giving me closure at the end.

As for the story, I'm not sure how else to put it - The Book of Blood and Shadow is like The Da Vinci Code for young-adults. I literally couldn't put it down and was disappointed when it ended. It's fast-paced,exciting and extremely intriguing. The story's well-planned and keeps you gripped. Maybe the ending could've been better but the rest of the novel was so good that I'm willing to over-look it. Robin Wasserman's writing is thoroughly captivating and really, if I ever meet her in person, I'd bombard her with questions.

It's 2am and I'm writing this review, that's how much I loved this book! I recommend it to anyone who loves an adventure, history/legends, has an open mind and a lot of imagination.

Waiting On Wednesday #2

The Golden Lily (Bloodlines, #2) by Richelle Mead.
Audience/Genre : Young Adult/Paranormal.
Publication : June 12th 2012 by Razorbill.
Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets—and human lives.

Sydney would love to go to college, but instead, she’s been sent into hiding at a posh boarding school in Palm Springs, California–tasked with protecting Moroi princess Jill Dragomir from assassins who want to throw the Moroi court into civil war. Formerly in disgrace, Sydney is now praised for her loyalty and obedience, and held up as the model of an exemplary Alchemist.

But the closer she grows to Jill, Eddie, and especially Adrian, the more she finds herself questioning her age-old Alchemist beliefs, her idea of family, and the sense of what it means to truly belong. Her world becomes even more complicated when magical experiments show Sydney may hold the key to prevent becoming Strigoi—the fiercest vampires, the ones who don’t die. But it’s her fear of being just that—special, magical, powerful—that scares her more than anything. Equally daunting is her new romance with Brayden, a cute, brainy guy who seems to be her match in every way. Yet, as perfect as he seems, Sydney finds herself being drawn to someone else—someone forbidden to her.

When a shocking secret threatens to tear the vampire world apart, Sydney’s loyalties are suddenly tested more than ever before. She wonders how she’s supposed to strike a balance between the principles and dogmas she’s been taught, and what her instincts are now telling her.

Should she trust the Alchemists—or her heart?

I guess it's no surprise that I'm one of the million(s) waiting for The Golden Lily to come out. Richelle Mead mentioned in an interview somewhere that we get a lot more romance in this one and I can't wait to read it! I've already pre-ordered a copy but I'm not going to wait for it to get delivered. I'm going to purchase the e-book as well so I can read it as soon as it's out. This is one of those few rare occasions where the time zone/difference works in my favor. =)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that showcases upcoming releases that we are excited about.
